2004 Saleen S7 on eBay

After seeing the new Ford GT in person at the Sebring Historics, and not being impressed with the fit / finish, I wonder if Saleen's S7 is any better. Isn't Saleen a Ford "tuner"? I compare it to the Ford GT only for this reason and because both are "supercars."
It is certainly an attractive design but reminds me of several other uber cars...

Cheers,
Tim

Yes. S7's run in the Speed Worldchallenge GT class, alongside M3's, C5Rs, Vipers, CTS-Vs, and 911s.

Matt,
Thank you for the information. I am "Speedvision" and ESPN challenged so I don't ever get to see any of this type of racing on television. How is this car doing against the competition you listed?
Cheers,
Tim

I think they run Grand Am as well. They're rarely near the front.

They've been runnig in ALMS since 2001, T. Borchellor won the title for the GTS class and scored a podium finish at LeMans. Since then they've put air intake restrictors on them that significantly reduced the power that they make. Since then they've been running what is essentially the same car.

I never did look close at that GT at Sebring, but it is sad that the fit and finish is still poor. I noticed the same thing at the Tampa Auto Show last year, the panels fit together like the car was assembled by a blind guy with all his fingertips recently chopped off. I'd rather have a new Z06 if I were going to throw my money at a domestic supercar.

The S7 was never a Speed GT series car. The only class where they compete is ALMS GT1 (formerly GTS).

They were slowed by a huge air restrictor when they first appeared, which was later enlarged as production on the car met the ACO's homologation criteria. The S7 is still reasonably competitive in GT1 but has a hard time hanging with the C6R and Aston Martins over a full race distance. Nobody racing the S7 can spend money at the same level as GM Racing or ProDrive either.

they no longer have a home in GrandAm since the GT rules were "dumbed down" last year.

My apologies. I saw them _somewhere_ on speedvision but it was a long time ago. Thanks for clarifying Greg.

Getting one off ebay would suck. When you buy them from saleen they fit the seat to your liking. Its not adjustable past that point. Haha, what if you were short and the dude selling it was tall.

Great information guys. Thanks for the education re: the S7.

I guess I'll catch up on motorsports next time I stay in a hotel or visit someone with more than expanded basic cable. We call it "stimulus control" around my house....having ONLY basic cable (19 channels) means we don't lay around watching as much TV as we would otherwise. This is the same logic that applies to weight management - - - don't keep binge foods around if you know your weaknesses (e.g., 1/2 gallon of ice cream before bed) ;) It seems to work for us but boy do I miss SpeedChannel, The History Channel, TWC, Discovery (Discovery Wings), the major news networks, etc.

Sorry 'bout that Dan. Thanks for posting up some additional S7 pics...that is one attractive car, IMHO. Reminds me of that RARE Jaguar "supercar" from the mid 90s, I believe. I believe it is in a couple of the racing simulation games I play...

I think it's XJ220.

There's also the XJR 15.

I think the Saleen looks more like the McLaren though.
