That is a beautiful car. I sorely wish BMW had made the touring E30 available in the U.S.

Beautifully executed swap! I'm very envious. Do you have any perfomance data, before and after?
What are you using for the ecu?
It's an Emerald stand alone ECU, made by a company over here in the UK.

Sorry, it's an old picture, the aly pipe has gone and is now replaced by a longer plastic pipe(less heat pick up) wrapped in insulation. The air filter is now tucked right up behind the head light so its getting plenty of cold air.

It was only ment to be temparary until i get this adapter plate finished, but i've been lazy and have been a bit short of $$$ this year so its not done yet.

Do you mean the vid clip on my web page ?

If so then that clip was taken with the bonnet up and me holding the camera roughly at the top of the A-pilar.

It was the very first night i'd got the engine swap done, it was to dark for some pictures so i took that small clip.

This arrived today

I absolutely love your car!!! So cool. It's a shame it is a right hand drive car or you could do a turbo too. I guess you could still do it. It would be a challenge to say the least. Again, your car is just awesome though! Welcome aboard! :p

Love the Touring! both E30 and E34.

THose wheels...People here in Aust would DIE for them.. Point being...Are you runing 5 stud swap froma E28 to run the E30 M3 wheels? or are the wheels 4 stud? Interesting...unless the touring came out with 5 stud?

Jesse...it has Rack and pinion..i dont htink it would be that big a deal for turbo..umm...minus the size of the engine in taht tiny body..im just assuoming..does the Rack and pnion linkages get in the Way??

Again great car!

EDIT: 335 have you got a link to your Website?

The M20 to M30 swap in an E30 will be my next project. There is a tutorial on the web that gives you a step by step on "how to"
do this conversion. One of the guys at Ireland has done this swap already and says it is a relatively easy one. He had to fab the motor mounts himself, but I know there are companies that have these off the shelf (obviously Alpina from the B6) and others.

My question is, what do you stop this thing with? Are brake parts available from the aftermarket or do you use genuine BMW parts from the e30 M3?

I love this E30 wagon, especially now. Thanks for posting the pics. VERY NICE!

Yep, the E30T is beautiful. Even my non-car-friendly ex-GF loved 'em. We went to Putnam Park during a BMW CCA school
just to hang out with some folks I knew (I was in a convertible so no school for me then), and one of the few E30 Tourings
in this country was there, being driven by the owner's wife. The ex pointed to it and said, "Ohmigod, I LOVE that! Get one
of those!" I grinned ... yeah right, they're pretty tough to come by here. But if someone wants to try the impossible, Will Z
up in Canada still has that S50-motored E30 Touring, or did a couple of months ago ....

Ron, don't know how much you care about "period correctness," but the M50/S50 swap into an E30 is just as well-documented.
Grab yourself a Euro S50B32 (321 hp, easily bumped to 350 with intake/exhaust/SW), and you'll have a motor that weighs less,
is smaller and better for weight distribution, and makes a ton more power. That would be an E30 Touring to build!

The wheels are just the regular 4 stud 15's , they look nice but are a pain to clean properly.

I'm trying to tune my engine for N/A. I already have a Schrick cam, some head work and the M5 TB's to fit when i get around to finishing them.

A turbo might come later on but not yet as i'm going to see how good it is after the TB's.

I have a friend with a 335 who is putting together an IC Turbo set up for his car, lowish boost to start with, he is aiming for about 300bhp at the crank.

I might have to change the gearing on mine if it pulls better with the TB's, i have a 3.64LSD at the mo but its a little short geared so i will be needing a 3.46LSD i think.

Try this link, not the best web page as i need to add some more text and bring it up to date.

Tammer, you are right about the S50B32 being a great swap but from a budget point of view it's very expensive compaired to the M30 and the S50 wieghs a little more than the M30.

Welcome Andy! Trust us....we LIKE IT :D
Has BNC (Brad) contributed to this thread yet? He's an e30 Touring owner...one of the few, the brave, the proud, the broke (LOL) in the U.S. to be able to say that :D
Cheers,

Sorry, it's all standard at the mo which is fine for 99 % of road use, when i do a track day then i want ATE groved discs with some uprated pads and fluid.

I can't justify a big brake swap as i don't do many track days.

Thanks, I am looking at a similar swap on a coupe and was wondering if the stock brakes are adequete (sp?) for everday use. I would also like to source some pre-fabbed motor mounts but don't want to spend the $$$ that Alpina charges.
