I know, but some have M30s installed, which would be ideal... And, with the Bav being one of my favorite cars of all time, I'm very okay with sticking to carbs. It just won't be a mountain car... The IX Touring I had was a monster in the snow!!!
With a set of Blizzaks that thing would push snow over the front of the car, it was totally badass!!!
Just watch getting snow in the intake as I did once, stalled it out. Got out, cleaned out the AFM and off I went.
If not an IX, you can't beat the Subbies, they rock in the snow as well.
All others will kill you on MPG's....

This is in no way a recommendation for a mountain vehicle, but the Subie video reminds me of the BEST $25 I ever spent.
At age 15, a friend and I split the $50 cost of an AMC Gremlin that was at the local junkyard but still running. For $50, they delivered to my friend's house. We drove that little POS through the woods and fields for a couple of weeks, making like Bo and Luke Duke, smashing into trees and over any obstacle Mother Nature put in our way. Eventually Craig (or maybe his older brother?) took out the oil pan on a stump and the engine seized. The junkyard came and picked it up for free.
I can't believe we didn't crack our skulls open. What the hell was a seatbelt or a helmet back then?

My deuce was pretty good in the mountains and in the snow with 10 Micheline XL tires on the ground. I took it wheelin' a few times and it did very well for being 13,000#. It was a workout, though. No power steering.
The NDTs that most of them have suck and they can have trouble with side-slopes. Butt puckering at times.

Yeah, '85s had them too. 1985 is THE MY year to 4runner to have. Last year for the solid front axle, first year for the EFI, fixed the too soft rear leaf springs, other little issues too. 80s AMC Eagle. The Subaru wagon before the Subaru wagon. Jeep drivetrain combined with higher clearance stance to create the original crossover, even inline-6 powered! On the phone now but there's a neat youtube video with one that has lockers on both axles otherwise stock looking and doing crazy stuff.
So how is a Bavaria going to be more conducive to winter driving any more than the Volvo?

Honestly Blake, with everything going on... just get a damn normal more modern FI vehicle, and if mountains and snow are issues, get a 90's SIlverado. They are very reliable, pretty comfortable, and can tackle just about anything you would normally encounter as a student in CO without throwing it off a cliff.
