That's what I was thinking. Do you just want access if a nut gets dropped (hehe)?

Told you so

It's a steel plate. It's leak free now and test to 12.6psi

Video coming shortly at a more reasonable 8psi.

It's funny how the video seems so lame when I watch it but the car wasted the tires in 2nd gear and that third gear push is pretty nasty. The car just piles on the mph instantly so you can't really lay into without risking arrest. Datalogs show max throttle at 54%.

I don't know Todd, that video looked pretty sick fast to me. Looks like a blast, literally.

And I look forward to having you closer to the neighborhood again. Relatively in middle-of-nowhere way.

Harper wants to make a trip up to Marquette this summer so you can get a feel first hand.

OK, call it what you want but you will be limited to 1/2 throttle.... and or, you hear the turbo, tires will be spinnin.

Sounds like fun, I will take you up on that. I cleaned and organized the garage since you were last here, it's no longer a clusterf&@k. Haha. Even built some overhead storage in. My door is open to you guys again, as always.

It's still cold outside and I am on summer tires. Grip will be much better as soon as temps get above 50F. Car has better grip than the last m30 setup. More linear power delivery and better tranny gearing help. I love the long first gear. Maybe I'll bolt on the drag radials next weekend.

Drove the car about 30 miles today. It's quiet on the hwy. Biggest problem now is wheel hop at 40mph. Ran the aux fan today and temps were fine around town. Still have to see how it does in a summer traffic jam.

I'll be working on installing gauges this week and figuring out a few electrical issues.

More progress this week. Fixed all of my electrical issues. Drove 50 miles round trip to a cars and coffee. Parked next to a Gallardo and 911Turbo.

This weeks list:

Build circuit for signals to fan controller and multi function gauge. (Thanks Peter)

Sort out ICV issue.

Tweak fuel map and get a WOT pull to 6000rpm.

Install new (used) low beams.

This is a picture to help demonstrate why I chose a 1.15 exh housing. The turbo doesn't feel laggy because the engine has 380hp n/a but the turbo is in fact pretty lazy. It takes about a 1/2 second to spool up from vacuum to 7psi when rolling into the throttle at a little over 3000rpm. This really makes the power come on smoothly and helps to accelerate with little if any tire spin. Oddly enough on this pull it starting spinning 2nd at about 5000rpm.

Yes, it's a .5 bar spring and it provides 7-8psi all the time. I am very happy with the boost control.

185 miles into the LSX e28 experiment the car gets it's first test. Here is my list of excuses:

1. I don't know how to drive it yet. No tach yet. My brain has no idea where the redline is based on the audio. Take a look at the datalog and she I shifted at 5350rpm  (peak HP s/b abt 6000rpm with a 6500rpm redline)

2. Tune is super conservative. 11.2-11.4 AFR.

3. Only 7psi. Most of the time it's 7.0-7.3psi.

4. Started run at 3500rpm in 3rd gear. Could have been in 2nd.

Image

So all that said. 50-100mph roll. 2012 C63 481hp. Pulled it about 2/3 car lengths. Then on a 2nd gear roll on I pulled it harder. The guys in the C63 rolled down the window and were freakin out. They gave the e28 huge props. I think they yelled "badass" 3 or 4 times.

This car is going to be very fast once it is sorted and I learn how to drive it. I am really struggling now. I am going to setup some sort of shift light. Maybe LEDs in the IC.

i use the closet light in my bathroom as a shit light, the little bit that shines under the door doesn't hurt my eyes in the middle of the night when taco bell goes wrong

I have the rev limiter setup. Just need to train my brain to recognize what 6000rpm sounds like. Car accelerates kinda fast so I want to keep my eyes up.

I know it plugs into a OBD II port, but you can figure it out. ;)

They aren't perfectly in the line of sight, but I always thought turning the oil service indicators into a progressive shift light would be sweet.

That's looking like a more and more solid option. The programs that are out aren't terrible. I've thought about going that direction with my datalogger, I'm not sure my microcontroller-fu can hold a candle to an android or iOS device.

I love that little $60 bluetooth adapter they've got there too! I thought about doing an open source one. I figured ~$40 cost in one off quantity, $25 or a little less in 100 off (without that neat little enclosure). At $60, they're right on the money to almost make it not worth my while. You could perhaps get away with a lower power bluetooth modem to cut cost, technically you shouldn't need class 1. I may still do the design if anyone's interested (and/or for my own use). It'd have to be surface mount, but the packages aren't a serious pain in the ass. Indeed I'm hoping to see more surface mount kits show up. Surface mount tools are getting cheaper too (<$120 for a decent starter kit), and it honestly can be easier that working with through hole stuff.

Bluetooth and Android/iOS tie ins are the tools I was most excited to see come to the table for MegaSquirt. Too bad I have nothing to play with in that regard at the moment. :(

Todd, any chance of getting the tach on the cluster working? Or is that a work in progress still?
