Vlad: The Zinno '87 535is
OP, I followed your car when it was being discussed on BaT; I live only 40 minutes from the seller in Santa Barbara and had considered taking a look but I wasn't quite ready to buy at the time. Truly a well-preserved specimen, and it looks so good in Zinno!
I'm reading this thread with great interest; I've owned an E24 for over 15 years but have always wanted an E28 and may be buying one soon...a 535is, much like yours.
When I installed Eibachs/ Bilstein Sports on my E24 I also installed Dinan camber adjusters on the rear subframe. Without them, my rear camber would have been over 2 degrees negative. After lowering your car, were you able to get the rear suspension alignment back into spec using the K-MAC camber/toe adjusters?

Yes, the K-MAC camber kit enabled the rear to be to spec.
Since I couldn't put the exhaust on I looked for something else to do. Decided to finish my low-rent shadowline job (and to fix the really horrible job I did on the parts I did already):
Before:
After:
I'm still considering getting actual shadowline trim from alpinass...he's taking his time getting back to me.

Time to revisit the wheel discussion.
The tires that came on the car are due to be replaced.
Those paying attention will recall that I originally wanted to put 17" wheels on this car. That was the 17 year old in me. The 46 year old, remembering that this is a daily driver and remembering my dad ragging on me about the importance of minimizing unsprung weight has won: I'm sticking with 16" wheels.
The Style 8s that are on the car now have grown on me, but not enough for me to love them. I'm particularly annoyed at how badly they need to be refinished. It bugs me to no end that I can't get them clean to my standards. So I will refinish them.
However, this begs the question as to what I put on the car in the meantime, with new summer tires.
I think I really want a set of BBS RX 16". All the examples I've seen for sale are E10 and that just won't do. Has any one ever seen RXs in 16" with an ET >= 20? The wheel/tire spreadsheet seems to indicate the exist (row 49 shows some with ET35 at 8.0" wide).

Here is a set BBS RX 16" x 8" and ET15 for sale. Just bumped about a week ago, so they might still be available.

I have not done the rockers yet. When I took a closer look on Saturday I realized they appear to have been painted with undercarriage paint (it's rubbery). I was planning on using SEM trim paint, but that obviously won't work over the rubbery stuff.unt0uchable wrote: May I ask what you used on the rockers?
The air dam looks great. How does it blend with the rest of the zinno? I've read that this color is one of the absolute hardest to match...
I think I'll buy a can of black undercarriage paint and use that. If it doesn't hold up, I'll strip it and do it right.
The Zinno on the air dam looks pink. I have not taken the time to polish it yet, but I'm hoping that when I do it darkens up.
I'm not going to lie. I think these wheels are hawt.
On eBay.
They'd look sweet on Vlad. Fitment would be perfect, I think. But the purists (including the one in me) would cringe.

Tape off and use the SEM Trim Black, it will work just fine and is exactly what I used. Make sure you clean with Prepol or something similar first.cek wrote:I have not done the rockers yet. +1 on this. I have also used SEM Trim Black on the rockers and it worked really well. Prep, tape, spray. One of those little things that you don't notice on an E28 until it is done right - then - Pow!Tape off and use the SEM Trim Black, it will work just fine and is exactly what I used. Totally understood. It is a lot of money and there are other great choices. Your car is looking great and I am sure you will pic something that will suit the car well.cek wrote:Damn purdy. But way outside my budget for wheels. Someday I'll own a real Alpina.OcCoupe wrote:This is a poor iphone pic of a set I made up for Paul Cain. He wanted a charcoal grey center though they are supposed to be a dark grey/black. I have a set of new Alpina caps to go with the wheels.
This looks pretty bad ass to me.
