200K (120K miles) is nothing for the M30 engine. With the correct maintenance, they will go 400K miles plus. Need to have the valve cover removed to check the banjo bolts that hold down the oil spray bar which lubricates the CAM. Loose bolts will cause oil pressure loss and you will see wear on the #1 cylinder cam lobs. Valves need to adjusted every 30K miles too.

You MUST get rid of the original wheels that have those metric TRX tires on them. TRX tires are expensive and dangerous. The interior looks great, I bet that the drivers seat bolsters are worn though. I noticed that the pictures avoided showing that area.

Red is a good color for paint revival. Clear coat was not used on red so the paint can be polished out very nicely.

I see that the car has the useless headlight adjustment option for when you are towing a heavy load and the nose is pointed in the air. The car does not even have a hitch???

I would be willing to pay between $5000-8000 for the car depending on the maintenance and condition of the engine compartment.

It does look pretty nice. As Duke said, chances are the driver's seat bolsters are worn. Also, from looking at the center dash it appears to be a non-A/C car if that's important to you.

what kind of cost are we looking at to install AC.

I am guessing it is really expensive.

I don't really have any idea but it can't be cheap. Hopefully Duke will know - he bought his car in Germany and I think had the a/c added after he got it.

The car you're looking at *may* have air conditioning in place; I brought it up because it has a non-a/c dashboard. However, many non-a/c cars had aftermarket a/c installed at a later date and the controls aren't necessarily the same as a factory a/c car, so it isn't obvious at first glance (for instance, my M535i has aftermarket a/c, and for some reason its temperature control knob is mounted inside the glove box.)

Looking at the pictures, the car does not have an aftermarket A/C system. I installed a DIAVA (Italian) system in my car. They stopped making the systems for the E28 a long time ago. Your only chance is to find a system on ebay.de or maybe Till or TC in Germany can find you one. It will have to be in Europe because all of the cars that came to the US had BMW A/C.

My DIAVA system uses a Sanden rotary compressor which is very common. I had all new barrier hoses made for it and replaced the filter/dryer so I could use R134a. It works great. I think start to finish it ran about $2000

I saw that car too. Also bear in mind that it's in Canada under their 15 year exemption.. we have a 25 year exemption, it's not US Legal, and if it's an '85 it needs another 4 years before it can get in without costly federalization.

This does assume that you're in America. Now, if it's titled in Canada you MAY be able to sneak it in... but I would be real careful there.
