The Thread of Randomness. . .
That's some great stuff! And there's a lot more where that came from; guess I'll be up for a while.

Friends don't let friends put concompressed 8MP pics in the thread of randomness. And it still doesn't look like a good camera pic.Minotaur wrote:I just realized last night you can upload photos from your smartphone right into KillerPM's provided uploader. You guys are scrood now!

Mike, duly noted! In my happiness I got carried away! I recognized the faux pas last night on another thread. I will pull it down...and until I can share better quality pics than my phone pics, I will refrain. Unless it's an emergency.
What it "was" was a sweet bronzed baby shoe, mounted above a well-used ashtray. Boy, a picture is worth a thousand words, isn't it?

Are you back using your dial up service?

Pretty weird combo.
We've got my wifey's, and both her brother's booties bronzed.
Guess the ashtray/bootie combo wasn't cool in the 50's.
This is for Mike.
bAnn Arbor MI -- Today Car and Driver reported that Sherman Watters, Sr., against the advice of mental-health professionals,
will compete in the 24 Hours of LeMons -- a wheel-to-wheel car race for heaps that cost $500 or less.
Watters, Sr.'s team -- the unpromisingly named "Gotham Gearheads II/Darwin Wrenching" -- hits your local track on 09/28/2013 to 09/29/2013,
where therapists and junkyard operators are already standing by.
One relative, on condition of anonymity, described Watters, Sr.'s family as "...saddened but unsurprised" by the news.
"Unfortunately, we've come to expect such lapses in judgment," the source told C/D.
Friends, coworkes, and relatives interested in staging an intervention and/or watching Watters, Sr. do something
incredibly embarrassing can find more information at Car and Driver's LeMons minisite or LeMons' race-info page.
P.S.
All that and I'm just part of the pit crew.

Thanks Mike.
Cool was the way it began, but about 6 1/2 hours in the motor cratered in the 325i.
Not my car, but disappointing none-the-less.
Especially since it was my first opportunity to be an official part of a/the team.
Maybe Darwin Wrenching isn't the best Team Name.
On the brighter side, the only E12 LeMons' entrant, the Oktoberfesters, finished 9th overall and 2nd in their classl.
They completed 545 laps, totaling 1296 miles, with an average speed of 54 MPH during the entire 24 hours.
I'm impressed...
No surprise, you of all should know an E12 with a M30 is more rugged than a E30 with a M20.1st 5er wrote:Mike W. wrote:

This is not from our team's car but rather a friend's team, I think Mazda.
If the video doesn't start there, skip to 08:00 to first see the E12 in action.

We believe it threw a rod (but miraculously didn't go through the block), but have yet to tear into the engine to find out.davintosh wrote:"Cratered" is kinda vague; what went wrong with the engine?1st 5er wrote:... Cool was the way it began, but about 6 1/2 hours in the motor cratered in the 325i.

My first question to the owner of the E12, which is also an SCCA race car, was, "WHY ARE YOU RUINING THAT VALANCE??"
Sherman, do you have any pictures of the E21 with the "Gruppe 5" spoilers on it?
Saw this linked on FB today; not sure if this guy is auditioning for a TV weatherguy spot or what...

The funniest thing is he's not trying to be funny. I think. Maybe Billy Bob Thornton had him in mind when he made "Sling Blade."

Craigslist seller: Posts an e34 525it for real cheap. Has one crappy picture, no basic information and lists a number to "text". So I text my interest and a few quick questions. His texted response: "please call". So I call and ask basic questions... car sounds rusty but maybe still ok and mechanically sound. So I ask for a few quick pictures to see what the rusty spots look like. He responds: "Well I'm at work now". Me: "ok cool, whenever". Him: "shit man, it's probably easier if I just put some gas in it and drive it to you". Me: "I'm at least an hour away", Him: "no big deal". Me: "just send me some pictures". He then went into some drawn out story about the rarity of e34 wagons and how he's going to take the money from this car and fix his other car and then sell it for $4,000 and then buy 2 other $2,000 cars. Oh, the kicker, the car is sold without a battery because he can use it in his other car. The car is in my hometown and this is what I grew up with, so I'm used to this type of shit, but it still cracks me up.
Turns out this guy kinda knew what he was talking about; two feet of snow in western SD, rain, thunderstorms & tornados in eastern SD.davintosh wrote:Saw this linked on FB today; not sure if this guy is auditioning for a TV weatherguy spot or what...
