I hear you. My baseline is a little different. My base engine is a complete M106, so the head all ready has 10mm studs. Using a TCD manfold means I will have to build a regular head. Also, I finally found a good 745i wastegate for a decent price, so now I can take the cost of a modded TiAL from Dan Miller off the budget (that was my option if I couldn't find a good WG, as the one on my engine has siezed and isn't responding to treatment). If I can get $300 for the K27, the other $300 of the price of a Garrett is offset by the WG savings. I have a friend who can do the welding for the downpipe mod ,so I just have to buy the flange.papajetta wrote:i was considering the t3 adapter for a while and almost went that route but:

I thought the t3/t4 hybrids were a good choice because they spool up a little faster, but still support a reasonably wide power band? For $600 you can have one built to your specs. I see TCD uses a t04e, perhaps I am mistaken in thinking that uses a t3 base?

Well the main point is that you want to be able to bolt on a T4.papajetta wrote:k27->t4 adapter.. don't know if its physically possible.
the opening on a t4 turbine inlet is as wide as the 745 manifold.
the opening on the adapter is not that important, it can be smaller than the opening on the turbo, But it should be bigger than the opening on the manifold. That should be all.

Finally had time to do some turbo engine tasks yesterday. Basting the wastegate in PB has finally paid off, the valve moves freely and responds quickly to vacuum/pressure. This is because I bought another wastegate last week.
Took the K27 apart too. Exhaust turbine is not pretty. Something got in there, the edges of the vanes are curled and cracked. Scratch one wheel. All kinds of carbony crap coming out from behind the tin shield behind the exhaust wheel. Better go water the money tree...

It gets worse -- the exhaust turbine housing has cracks around the perimeter on the inside. Serious heat cycle fatigue... This one is toast, no rebuild is going to save it.Velocewest wrote:
