That's because you knew what you were doing...
Jake, my car better be on that list today!!! By the way, I'm not sure if I put down a shirt size...if not, I want an XL...

And all of them '85's? One's mine, one's Yar's, whose is the 3rd?wkohler wrote:Three M535s. Interesting.
I guess that begs the question: what am I going to see you roll up into Newhall in?
Jake: I'm not sure you got my T-Shirt size either: Large please.
Re: 5erWest 2014 -- July 18-20 -- Oregon
The third M535i may be mine - but just for clarity the car won't be there, just me. I "think" the registration process included a field for car info as part the completion. Then again, it could be a mystery guest making an appearance so we can add it to the roster of known stateside M535i's

Well, my bags are packed and I'm ready to go.
I'm off in the morning to pickup the M535 on my way to meet up with Kohler & Kenny about 11am, won't have a chance to check in tomorrow until we hit Jay3's in Sacramento.
We'll see Yar & Adam in Woodland Friday morning then all the rest of you guys in Portland for dinner.
I hope Chris manages to get some sleep tonight.
Safe travels everyone.

I've made the big drive from Spokane to Portland today and I arrived safe and sound with all the 5erWest gear in tow. I found Kirsten hard at work stuffing all the registration packets in a pile of ballots, business cards and decals.
Glad to hear that everybody is safe and wheeling their way here. I'm so excited to see you all.

Definitely make plans for 2015. We're going to move the event across the river into the big park. It's sad that Gladstone was unwilling to work with us to keep it at the original location, but I really think this will be a BIG move up.
Just imagine this, but with 5ers...

What a great time. I had a blast, even though I didn't do the drive it was still fun to ride along. Can't wait for next year when my car will be ready for the drive and hopefully have a few other things done on it.

Re: 5erWest 2014 -- July 18-20 -- Oregon
Here comes the best of the photos I took this weekend. Those of you still dialing in via Aol, go grab some Folgers.
Huge tip of the hat to Jake, AJ, Tyler and all the other volunteers. You put on a really, really great event. I enjoyed myself immensely.
Chris, Yar, Adam, Austin (x2), Eric, Issac, my roomie Vince, and about a dozen other's: It was really, really nice meeting you all in person. It turns out NONE of you are assholes in the real world. Who knew?
Mike in Seattle's sweet 535i. Mike followed me all the way down from Seattle because he noticed my brake lights were out. He BECAME my brake lights. Thanks to Paul & Joel for letting me borrow their soldering iron in the hotel parking garage....
This is Stephen (from Vancouver, BC)'s Euro M5. Bad-ass car.
Whoever put this built M30B35 together is a true craftsman and clearly knew what he was doing.
Actually, I jest. THESE guys are the true craftsmen. Seriously anyone who doesn't get wood from oogling the workmanship on this baby needs help.
Kohler, as expected, was everywhere.
'twas a bit roasty on the tarmac, but the burgers & fish & chips were great at the old Elk's Lodge.
The paint on this E30 was just too good not to take a picture of.
Eric won best of class for his E12. Which is surprising given how much competition there was. The interior of that thing warms my heart.
One of the E28 rows:
The man, himself.
Yes, Kohler won. Shocking? I didn't think so. That car *IS* as amazing in person as it is in photos. Deserved.
I was trying to get another picture of Vlad, but these guys got in the way. Who are they all?
We had about 10-12 cars for our drive today. We went up and around Mt. Hood, stopping for lunch in Hood River at the Full Sail Brewery. Traffic was sporadic, but near the top of Mt. Hood it opened up and we had 3-4 miles pretty much to ourselves. I really got to stretch the new motor's legs...i'm still grinning.
This. Car.
After lunch we stopped at the Bonneville Dam and took a damn large number of photos.
Power. Lots of it.
I like all these pictures of Vlad next to Paul & Joel's car.
Damn that's a big dam.
Art shot.
Polarises.
Nice phone Austin.

Nice! Thanks for posting the pics. I didn't see many E34's in there. That trophy looks cool too. Is it a perpetual trophy, best of show etc?
How about a synopsis of the show and awards? Oh and that venue for next year looks great!

Thanks for posting such great photos! I'm wheeling my way home. I'll add more info when I can.
A recount indicates that the E34 vote was a tie and I'll be sending Fred Lerimer his award for his gorgeous M5 and a set of style 5s that were "breasttaking"

What a great event this year. It was a long trip and it's not over yet, but the weekend was over in a flash, it seemed. Jake, Tyler and their team did a great job this year as always and despite complications coming late in the game, they pulled it together quickly and we had a great time. The Milwaukie Elks Lodge were great hosts and we certainly enjoyed their offerings for food and drink and their indoor facilities with copious amounts of seating brought a welcome respite from the hot tarmac outside. It was also great to make use of their multiple hole restrooms with their antique Standard urinals. Quite impressive.
Every year, we drive out to Hood River and have lunch or dinner at the Full Sail Brew House and while it was the official drive the first two years, it remained a tradition for us. This year, it was back as the Sunday Drive and we got to take a different route out there which was phenomenal. Unfortunately, old Highway 30 was under much construction, so we did the return on WA-14, but it allowed us to do our usual photos with Bonneville Dam in the background.
I drove a considerable distance this years as always and it is always worth it to come. This year was different than years past for me. I was honored with the Best in Class award for E28, then the first recipient of the excellent Best in Show award created by Joel Daniels. He worked hard on it and created a piece of art using his talents. I'm very pleased and excited that the B7 Turbo received so much recognition and many compliments. So far, I've been really pleased with the car on the trip and I think it's given me a bit of a chance to really connect with it. It really is a fabulous machine and was a good partner in my journey being the furthest traveled to come to the event.
I'm glad I got to spend time with people I enjoy seeing and get to know at least a couple of folks that I didn't really know and am glad I got to take the time to do so. This event always has great cars, but the people are why I keep coming back year after year.
I want to thank Moosehead Engineering for being such a great sponsor for this event year after year and I will definitely put your rear shock mounts to use on my 528i. Fortuitous for sure.
Here's some of the photos I took during the weekend.
Fred Larimer's E34 M5 - a beautiful example
Charlie's very nice 535is. It really is a great example of a 535is and still is during to my working brakes.
Vince's M535i (2012 E28 Best of Chassis winner)
Eric Q's lovely '79 528i
Yar's M535i (I really, really miss this car - especially hearing that exhaust)
Adam's slicktop 525i (It's come a long way since BimmerBrothers sold it)
The other E34 that tied for first
Last year's gorgeous Avusblau E34 M5 (best E34 winner 2013)
BCM5's slick Euro M5. Quite a bit of power under the hood of that machine.
Here's some photos from the drive on Sunday. We went out Highway 26 which was spectacular, then took Hwy 35. Some of us had to stop for some relief, so we found a fruit stand with a three-holer outhouse and when we exited the cars, we had a pretty slick backdrop of Mt. Hood.
Here's Joel's 528e (S52-powered)
Charlie's 535
Yar's M535i
My B7 Turbo which looks like a small, highly inefficient helicopter in this shot
Another shot of the 528e
More B7 Turbo
We had a great lunch at Full Sail. Once we were finished with that, we took I-84 to Cascade Locks, then crossed the Bridge of the Gods to Stevenson, WA, where we then drove several miles of beautiful WA-14 with amazing views of the Columbia River Gorge. We then stopped at the Bonneville Dam.
We had some non-E28s with us, but we were eventually able to get all of the E28s together for some photos.
I know Charlie already posted this, but here's another one of someone that seems quite content with his new motor.
I took a few photos of my own car, too.
A couple of M535s is never a bad thing.
