Cool project... Using M30 crank?
Re: big power m30
moar!
Re: big power m30
Thats some great plumbing layout for the space given. I really like how you have the wastegate tied in perfectly in line with exhaust flow.

Beautiful!
If possible I would try to raise rear to allow access to plug #6. I've changed a lot of plugs on mine through the years.
Your workmanship speaks for itself.

That's fine for an engine dyno, but I'm curious where you'll find a solid driveshaft and axle set made of depleted uranium.
A 1kw 7M creates so much torque it flexes the chassis, and the M30 creates more peak torque than the 7M at the same horsepower. Put it in a weaker chassis and I'm very curious to see a video of this at the dyno.
If there's another head, I'd love to know what it is. I don't really want to turbo a SOHC engine. Though I imagine if I port it really big, oversized valves, and a super aggressive cam, it might flow how it should on a high-pressure engine, but the same can be said for a 24v DOHC.

This 24v head wouldn't happen to be the S38 head, would it? You know that doesn't bolt onto the M30 block, right?Jelmer538i wrote:It would be plain stuppid to put loads of money and time into a M30 head when there is a 24v head available of the shelf which flows 3000 times better.

What ever happened to this?

Re: big power m30
Yes it does fit. My brother has it in his 537i turbo: M30 block, S38 head. But we only used this combo because the M30 block was already prepped.Owndapwn wrote: This 24v head wouldn't happen to be the S38 head, would it? You know that doesn't bolt onto the M30 block, right?

I'd be very interested in how it was prepped then.Jelmer538i wrote:Yes it does fit. My brother has it in his 537i turbo: M30 block, S38 head. I've heard multiple accounts that the oil and coolant reservoirs don't line up from head to block, in addition to the obvious timing problems.

Re: big power m30
Well, you heard wrong because a S38 block is basicly a M30 block. Only issue's where the oil return from the head which we made our selfs and the timing chain where we used the S38 timing components, this was basicly plug and play.Owndapwn wrote:I'd be very interested in how it was prepped then.Jelmer538i wrote:Yes it does fit. Re: big power m30
Which begs the question why there isn't a single documented build to be found. Just a few hypotheticals and second hand claims, and people looking to do this and being told it would require VERY invasive machine work on the block and head, the oil return, timing, compression ratio, and the bore doesn't match to name a few of the issues that I've seen.Jelmer538i wrote:Well, you heard wrong because a S38 block is basicly a M30 block. Apparently you can mash certain parts, but not head to block.
An S38 swap looks to be cheaper than the fab work alone to get everything to work, never mind the cost of parts, and the end result would be less power than a stock S38 due to simply missing 200cc or so of displacement.
I'd be very interested in some build logs, if you made any.

What do you do about the bore/stroke? Or did you use an m90 block?

I keep coming back to this thread. It's better than porn.
Re: big power m30
Not sure if you guys know about it, but there's been a 1000+ rwhp m30 engine(1041rwhp) for a bit now:

And that manifold your making looks like art.

Daym!
Wish e30s could fit 315s. Maybe I should upgrade to an e28
