IATs with E85

Post by fieldy »

Finally it's getting warm outside (here in Austria). Since my turbo adventure (build thread also in the FI section) started in the fall of 2014, I have yet to gain some experience with this kind of stuff in hot weather conditions.
My question is, what inlet temperetures are considered safe on a 9:0 CR B35 with E85 (actually still E70 so far)? The intercooler doesn't get too much direct air cramped in there....can't cut out too much of the front valance/bumper, couldn't afford to pay the fine if they'd get me with a turboed E30  .

I saw around 50°C (120°F) after a few short pulls with 18 psi boost, so no problem so far, but still just 25°C ambient temperature.
Where does it get dangerous (and should timing be pulled)? Read some stuff on LS1-tech, says above 200°F it gets risky....

Hope some of the M30-experienced people around here chime in!

Greetings :)

I have a turbo ls powered Camaro on E85. Ive ran it non intercooled and made passes at the track at over 300F. No issues. I wouldn't worry in the slightest bit about anything under 200F. I do pull timing once the temp gets hot. Just some insight, it may be helpful

Ok thanks. I've already wondered....if those high compression non-ic strip LS cars one can see all over the internet don't detonate to death immediately and instead are making incredible amounts of power on E85, it shouldn't even bother my 9:0 lump at all, as long as it doesn't get too extreme.
