Standalone Questions/ Info Wanted
I was wondering if anyone has had success installing megasquirt or other controllers on an e23 745i and if you have information about it. Thanks.

Lots of us have. Look at the first sticky at top of page. It's a steep learning curve, but worth it.

I have a vems 3.6 on my 745. It runs and drives great here in Las Vegas.

I'm looking into megasquirt this year. I haven't pulled the plug yet, still trying to learn as much as I can. From what I can tell, I think I'll be grabbing a M1.1 harness from a 528e superETA, adding the 60/2 wheel and sensors and going from there.

I haven't done it yet but I'm pretty far along in my planning. I've got a cherry super ETA auto harness that I'll be using. The fuse box connector is the same as the one on (my 12/83 production) 745i but the pin out is slightly different. My main problem is that my car has the EH 4 speed, so I can't install MS until I either swap to a manual or figure out how to make the transmission computer play nice with MS.

If you have 80-100 hours to spare, buy a MS3 box and flying lead harness for sequential ignition and fueling. Not much challenge in using the 528seta harness.

AFAIK nobody has made the MS work with the EH trans. Obviously you could use a non EH 4HP22. The previous owner of my car was looking into megasquirt until he realized you can't drive the EH trans so he started looking into the W.A.R MAF and chip conversion but eventually gave up. I manual swapped the car so I'm back down the same road.

I might be crazy but I'm not that crazy

I have installed MS on the m106 (which I still assume you have in the 745i) I have in my e34, however I have the nice option with the 55 pin adatper avaialble for the e34 harnesses from diyautotune. I have a really detailed thread in my sig. about assembling it and pretty much everything you'd need to know about the MS system I have. Can't help much about the EFI harness though.
Good luck!
