So we've officially agreed on 535e, so we'll see if we can get that badge mocked up soon.

But today coolant was done, we bled it my dad's way and no overheating. Idles around 850ish and it's a wee bit lumpy bc of the cam, no 02 sensor, open headers, AFM is zip tied for now. So a lot of details, but we got hung up by a no start issue. Was a bad connector on the coil, was intermittently losing spark. Grabbed one of the other harness and fixed. The head is torqued on its final stage, so now to do list.

To Do:
Pilot Bearing
Clutch/Pressure Plate
Re-assemble transmission and see if our homemade G260/65 will work
Mount AFM correctly
Miller 28pin conversion after I get another ECU(would like to have 2)
Document every mileage old fashion way, until we get odo.
Oil Change at about 100 miles I guess, then redo at ,750 and start 5,000 mile intervals.
Get Battery Tiedown
Exhaust+02 bung and get an 02 sensor.
Fix A/C we burned through a line with the header(Get New Line, upgrade condensor, and R12A.
Put in 535i Throttle cable
Check Engine mounts, valves/valvetrain, at next oil change.
Check for /Fix Leaks
Get Learners permit in time for Tex Fest
Have car ready for Tex Fest

Did what we shouldve done in the first place, called Korman and it was the IT's guy fault. 24 pin chip is on the way and the Miller thing was ordered Anyway. So it won't hurt to have it, because we might be able to keep the 28-pin chip.

So far we have been very happy with Korman's service. He is kindve old school like my boss here at the shop and does buisness over the phone, very cool guy.

Car moves 5inches and locks up

So... Driveshaft is different. As others have said, but that's for sure now. But we removed whatever the nut thing on the rear half was to extend it to work and do a quick test drive. Didn't work but it could be shift linkage as well. Goes into gear but idk anymore. shift linkage is different due to transmission placement, luckily we have the shift linkage stuff. We don't have the driveshaft tho.

So tmmrw we will pick up, more parts from the donor car ECU, exhaust and Driveshaft.

Also grandfather pointed out that since my father is Dr. Frankenstein, I have to be Igor.
So yeah...

Just realized I haven't updated this in forever. So we made it to Tex-Fest, it runs great pulls all the way to 6600. Also found out it will do 120 without full throttle, make sure to check that when you adjust your tps. The locking up problem wasn't solved with a new driveshaft, so we decided to power through it. The diff had somehow froze up, solution was a 3.46 LSD. We also had a running issue where it would just die, was an ECU issue. I also took the front bumper off, and painted the hood in 3 different colors of O-Reilys beige. Scared my mom the other day LOL it lights up tires. Also got my learners permit, :ohyeah:

Install Calipers from CEK
Rebuild a pedal box(brake pedal left to right play and clutch return)
Fix Dash Lights and Defroster
Fix Oil Leak
Fix ABS(?)
Install worse cloth seats for my skinny ass to not slide as much
Check Everything off this list

Shout out to my father, Sherman, Memo, Nick, my boss, and everyone else at TWS for making all this happen!

We also got my dads old car from when I was 2. Sherman ended up with it, so time to resurrect another one. Burgandrot 535i 5spd

Looks great! I'm basically doing the same thing with an 88 eta. Im at the stage now where I'm removing brackets in the engine for air filter and coolant res, and the rest of the mounts and then I'm pilfering the correct donor brackets off of an e24 body i have. Once i get them positioned ill weld them in. Good luck with your build it looks like you've got some proper help.

If you can find a 535i cut the air filter bracket off, and you can retain the M20 B27 Airbox mount for the coolant with a L adaptor.

That sounds awesome, we use to have an 88 eta but it was too rusty and the harness was gone. But thats awesome you can put a B35 in it with that harness. I'll go check out your build

Just put in brand new bushings for the throttle stuff, bc there weren't any. It was just the rod floating in between the two pieces of sheet metal lol. Pedal is smooth now, it's awesome, also the HVAC lights are working now. The cig. Lighter is glued in, but connecting it has become a bitch need to remodify the connector. The stereo is powered off it, and we made a T connector to power the cig lighter and the radio but we'll figure something out.

This happened not neccasarily related to the E28, but very important moment in my life that I'd like to document. Finally got out to drive on track, shaved down a 2:10 to a 1:58.1 which was a second away from my fathers time of that weekend. Not sure how I did it but It was loads of fun.

This e46 got me obsessed with racing, and allowed me to see old beater E30's at the track which started my love for old BMW's. Been waiting to get out on track since, I was Oct, 2010 was awesome to finally be out there and throw down some laps. Everyone was shocked I got under 2 min, I'm still convinced it was how well the car was setup.

Nothing like wkholers M535i or CEKs 535is, but I'm hoping to save up some more moneys this summer and keep this thread rolling. *cough coil overs, sways, summer tires and random shit I'll be doing with this POS*

I do appreciate your appreciation of the thread.

(More of a personal note) As of now I need to upload:
Oil leak shit
My other sport seat that's not trashed
A/C fan installed

Stuff I need to fix:
One rear window isn't aligned right
Door handles, I over tensioned when installed so they cracked *fuck my life*
Fix the other sport seat, and find a belt so I can have matching rad cool kid seats
Needs sways and tires, so I can start tracking it

Also gonna learn how to rebuild stuff because eventually we're gonna run our of cheap good cores seats, get rags, diffs. So Like I said I'm restore my sport seat
-Rebuild my blown getrag
-Rebuild cracked pedal box
-old LSD (these are gonna have to be worth something one day, try finding an E12 posi lmao)
Any other things I have laying around
-find an G265 and learn how to rebuild those because people think they're Jesus

But yeah the story of the ancient beige eta with a big block w/ a cam, 5spd , uno bucket seat and posi will continue....

I passed 87, the lady could tell I was used to standard transmission and wasn't slowing down enough for turns because no engine braking. But it was a win so yeah

will update this thread mañana, because Pre-AP and AP classes homework about 5 classes worth I have to tonight. I :ohyeah: procrastinating. It's not a problem until you make it a problem.

Things been running awesome, except for the oil leak. 100 quarts every 2-3 gas stops, its permanently stained the driveway lmao.

After 4 transmission pulls, lets actually go through this. Fuck doing it right the 1st time....

So on the 5th time... we looked

mhm...

Just in case you can't see it

Yes.... magic... *sigh*

My father assembled the bottom end, so now he can be quiet about my backwards intake manifold. So we though this was the leak, and buttoned it all back up.

It wasn't. So out again and we replaced the rear main seal. TA-FUCKING-DA!
I guess cars would be fun if I didn't eat Chromosomes.

Also had to do that, because our transmission removal has taken its tole on the insulation.

I also got a proper non-destroyed sport seat, so I can live my racer boy fantasy.

My pile of cores is growing

I love how this thing drives though, when the cam comes on it goes and can still torque around town. Does a 2:20 around TWS with 420 treadwear, stock sways, and stock brakes with stainless steel lines. The H&R and Bilstein sports ride better than most modern cars. But for now until I get more money, this build is about "done". Just got to keep it running, not wreck it since Im a reckless teen.

Time to focus on the OG 535i.

Re: FUBAR $650 535e Build (4/12 Update "Growing Up")

Post by LeiseyJr »

Growing up is pretty shitty. Kindve wish I kept stock for engine, feeling up with 93 is getting expensive. Mis-judged how much money was in my bank account so,-$1.14 has now turned to -$60(learned how persuasive the bank is), and I still need to verify all my shit with paypal to add in money. I had the money, just not digitally why I put it off. Now I dont have the money.... wont ever do that again. School is also keeping me busy as shit. Finals are coming up pretty soon here....got to do a program to keep the insurance rate down. Also my tires are starting to get down to their last miles with my hooning, and I can't really work until the summer. I hate asking for money from my father usually..... looks like I'm going to have to right now.

Brightside car is running good though, and I love it. Continues to be reliable, hopefully that will continue. Gonna go to one of the last PDS's this weekend, and drive it for a couple of sessions. Idk why I'm beating on my daily when my father lets me drive the racecar.
