New Plate!

And who knew that the Great State of Arizona uses Zinno on their historic plates? Here's a dab of Zinnoberot touch up paint on the spare plate:

It may be just a cunt hair (red of course) darker.

Installed some Moosehead UCABs.
Was really easy since they came pre-installed in new arms!
Thanks Paul!

Purchased and installed a clean set of Style 33's on the car. It's amazing how ugly wheels like that look perfect on these cars. :D

Thanks for that. Its been 2 years and almost 10 k miles, and I had almost gotten over it. Epic fail for the anal retentives. Already counting down for 333,333 and 333.3. At 5k a year that will be in ...(I'll let u do the math and remind me [emoji6] )

We drove this car home, did an inaugural grocery run, then opened it up a bit ... she did just fine. Kudos to David for a solid build of an interesting car with character.

What did you do to your E28 today?

Post by dhdrums »

I put in the Euro lights I bought from fatso. It went a lot smoother than I thought it would. However I had to spread it out over two days since I waited to late to start. So I ended up driving around town for a day like this:

But now it looks a lot better.

Then after that I fixed the cause of leaving puddles of coolant every where I parked. Ended up being a bad water pump gasket so I replaced the water pump, the thermostat and the upper hose.

While putting the belt back on the pulley, I realized the teeth in the alternator look like someone who has never brushed their teeth. So now thats ordered and will hopefully go on Friday.

It is amazing how as soon as one problem is fixed another one presents itself.

Sapotorito wrote:Sat morning I went to a junk yard that had a couple of e28s. I unfortunately found out about this 30+ days too late and of course as I had expected both had been gutted out drastically by the time I got to them. But since my car is no garage queen I still managed to find a couple of things for my car out of the gutted ones..

I brought with me a stereo (my stereo's volume knob is messed up and its hard to control the volume, it was annoying as hell and I had been wanting to swap it... And yes I am totally ok with the original bmw car sound system), I also found a kidney in much better shape than mine believe it or not (both cars at the junk yard were 88s and mine is an 84, my kidney is made out of cheap aluminum unlike the newer ones)... I have also read on this forum the aftermarket sunroof water seals suck so I brought with me one of the two at the junk yard to save it for when I paint the car.. I also needed a moulding for the rear left side so I got that as well...

Ok so what did I do to my e28 today? I swapped the stereo (i tested the thing out and worked perfectly!), the door moulding and the kidney... Out of these things, at least for me, the most exciting thing was to see how much better the "new" kidney looked than the older one.. Of course I cleaned it nicely throughout before installing and that made a lot of difference...

Here's my original kidney:
Image
pretty sad..

here's the new one:
Image
a world of difference :D

Here's the stereo swap picture, the PO had a wire mess...

My 82 528e has aluminum kidneys also............never really thought anything about it.

Installed new Boge turbo gas struts and Febi strut mounts. The parts I removed were 29 years old.

It feels more like a new car. The old parts weren't completely shot but were worn. I believe the Turbo gas are supposed to be valved about 15% stiffer than stock which seems believable. I'm running stock springs and will go with Billy HD for the rear when its time. Overall the ride is more confidence inspiring. The incremental changes I am making are all adding up :D

That's great. Why are you thinking Bilstein HD for the rear versus the Boge?

I was thinking Billy HD for the rear because the reviews I have read indicate that a stiffer shock (up to a point) back there is beneficial and I didn't know that you could still get the Boge turbo shocks.

This is from last night, but I changed the driver's side window guide in my M5. Pretty sure this is my first post in this thread, too. Might change the passenger side tonight. Might go swimming, then get drunk instead, nobody knows.

I started and moved it last night for the first time in nearly a month. The battery barely did the job. I don't hate this thing today.

I'm considering what do about the front struts. I have a wide choice of used ones. I'm going to investigate the possibility of drilling a grease passage for the hub. Much as the Borman 6 deserves a Viking funeral, I'm gonna pick a few goodies and call the knackers. It has a pair of Original Equipment Boge hydraulics with maybe 60-70 K and a dozen yrs old.I put them in earlier in the millennium. The hubs are original with 350 K miles on them.
