FS: Lightly used window tint for rear window

Post by wkohler »

I've got some window tint in pretty nice shape available. It's a nice, two-layer tint job and is period-correct. Can easily be reapplied using 3M spray adhesive to each surface and following the instructions. This tint should provide several more years of trouble free service.

Tint will be carefully folded and shipped in a flat-rate envelope via USPS Priority Mail.

Yours for $35.

How does one remove tint without messing it up? I must know your secrets.

I'm sorry if this is perceived as spam posting, but this is bad.

It looks like it already has a hint of blueish purple to it, one sign of old, gross looking tint.

And for double the small price or less, one could go get film done by a shop that does this every day, with film that will last 10 years or more and has a warranty.

If it gets any tiny sort of crease in the mail the tint is ruined, adding to the already faded discoloration.

...and reusing tint? With spray adhesive on glass?

Dude the more I think about this the worse it gets. I'm sorry but this is just really really bad.

That's, like, your opinion. I said carefully folded. Anyone can just fold. Not everyone can carefully fold. I'm going to put a piece of cardboard in the envelope, too, so it doesn't get bent. Just steam the wrinkles out. That's how I did it when I tinted my last window.

Image

Not just anyone can offer period correct tint. This is two layers of tint, too. Double the protection. It even has a grid on it to help line it up with your defroster element.

I've sold this stuff before and this was really the key thing on this latest parts car. I had three people ask about it. I have tinted all of my cars this way. The new films are cheap and the quality is untested. This stuff has been around a while and I think it has staying power.

I get that you're relatively new and might not be familiar with my reputation. It's okay. We all make mistakes.

By period correct do you mean purple?

In that case I'd assume most would want to step into this decade with black. I don't think "just anyone" WANTS to offer, "period correct tint."
Purple means old, so I guess I see your point, kind of like the hair product, "touch of grey."

New films cheap and untested by... who? You, Mr. Purple Tints?

And two layers of tint... Event light film has 99% UV protection. Wearing two condoms is pointless.

My most recent warranty work for someone's old tint at work was after ten years of installation, one window, the most exposed back window, had developed some haze. They were smart and kept their receipt and got the tint replaced for free through a reputable shop.

I haven't posted a lot, but felt the need to open my mouth to bring a second opinion on a topic that many don't know things about, so cocky people like you don't keep making money off of bullshit like this.

Good tint work isn't that expensive, you get what you pay for.

We all make mistakes, here's to someone's next mistake, ordering this from you, folded and creased through the mail.

Quit being a cock off and accept a second opinion, now they've been warned. Consider this your disclaimer.

Chris,
Would you be willing to sell the tint from the Gulf?

Also I think the 3m adhesive is a bad idea. I have some black crystal clear silicone that works well for this application.

I expect this to be rather pricey but I'm willing to pay all the costs.

This is the nicest used tint I have seen. It is very hard to get it removed to be able to easily reinstall. Wonderful period color, too.

This won't last long!! Great price, too.

I have purchased period correct (pc) tint from Kohler before. His tint is as described if not better. I needed a whole set for my award winning 535i and I can attest that the tint was the icing on the cake. Kohler even drove out from AZ to help me instal it. Would recommend to anyone.

Thanks. I've got a few interested parties. Some have been asking if I have the tint available from the other windows and I should have that in a week or so once I remove all of the glass. I can put a kit together for anyone interested in tinting all of the windows in their car to match.

Doug - I will probably sell the tint from the Golf car. I found some other tint that I'm really liking at the yard and am going to go pull that soon. It's optic yellow!

Edit - and thanks Mike! That was really some primo stuff we put on the Bronzit car. I was jealous once we finished. Should have kept that for myself. an '81-vintage 35%.

Also I wanted to compliment you on your removal technique.

It's obvious that some people don't know museum quality tint when they see it.

Jesus. White flag, alright I give up.

I'll be over here in the, "brand new tint dye was black, before fading, in the 80's too," gang.

Not my cars anyway, gotta worry about myself. Ttyl.

Here's a pic of my car after Kohler and I installed the tint. As you can see the quality is excellent and it really looks like it was dealer installed in the 80's.

Glad this is fake.

Kohler you son of a bitch!

I deal with shit like this seemingly every day at work.

Like a tire shop employee who's found a thread that is selling vintage Tiger Paw tires that are hella cracked, which is sweet because theyre from the 80's... I don't laugh anymore.

I'm here to protect my fellows!!!!!!!

I guess only serious 80's car guys get it. It's a bit hardcore for some. It's not for everyone I guess. I personally like oem and period correct upgrades. I think it's that extra bit of sizzle.

Here's another shot in different lighting.

Image

I also like the look of period correct pin stripes or as the collectors call it "coach lines".

Here's Don Q redoing my stripes on the '88.

Mike's attention to detail really is what made the difference on his install. We spent a lot of time steaming the tint. It went on well but we got better result removing the glass to apply it. That shot was taken after the rear window was reinstalled.

Mike got lucky on a set of correct stripes, but they were a huge PITA and the result really wasn't worth it for the time and effort involved. Of course, Mike had them professionally installed but trying to get a whole cars worth in decent shape took months. I've had much better results with tint.

Thank you for selling this first sheet to me. I look forward to receiving it as we are having a warm fall and I'll be able to get it on the car before the brightness of the snow reflections make this a mandatory upgrade.

I have a couple questions, will the installation need any extra elbow grease. I don't have a lot left in the container and if I need it, I'll go ahead and order some: http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_pa ... RfVWD5epD3

With the small extra chunks you are sending I want to do my blinkers and was wondering if the blinker fluid is needed to install this tint on the blinkers: http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_pa ... RfVWD5epD3
This seems more of an electrical solution!?! than an installation product but I thought you might have experience with that. I realy do like the look of the blinkers up front being the same period correct color as the windows, fading into the bumper rub strip and not sticking out bright orange. If I have enough "Period Correct Window Tint"®, I will do the side marker lights, too. Hopefully, blinker fluid will work here, too, making installation professional and stock looking.

Thanks again. I can't wait.

I'll post pics of the blinkers and side markers when I'm done the install. I know we all love pictures. Try this upgrade on a €-bumpered car!!!

I bet there is one thing that you guys don't have on your so called "original" cars. And that's genuine BMW made air, in your tires. It took a while to collect the stuff, it's pretty hard to handle and easily contaminated.

Not quite the original air, but the next best thing. I already had David bottle up some of the ambient air over in the motherland and ship to me. I know the mixture isn't quite the same 30 years later, but it does smell of schnitzel and red cabbage.

I'm surprised nobody here has tinted their rearview (sideview) mirrors. The result is amazing! Now I have to obtain some of Kohlers period correct tint to do the rest of my cars properly.

That was quick. Thanks for shipping this in a Priority Mail pouch. It has arrived and I have time today to get the tint installed on my ride. I'll post pics later when I get it installed and show you guys that Chris sends the good stuff at a fair price. Looking forward to this.
