M20 ECU

Post by darbyhood »

Is there any sort of ECU preferred for a 2.7L M20 with forced induction?

Or could the car run without it? I don't want the car miss firing because it cannot register the positive pressure unless the ECU inside the car isn't advanced enough to register it

The ECU only sees a load signal from the AFM and a handful of sensor inputs and calculates pulse width and ignition advance from that. It does not know you have a turbo on the motor. It doesn't need to know until you get over a certain boost level. You can use other methods to provide fuel enrichment and the ignition advance is good up to at least 7 psi.

So as long as I am running less than 7psi of boost I don't need to replace it?

That's a good thing cause that will save me a few thousand dollars

Both your questions and answers indicate that you really need to do more research into the realm of FI!
