For SMG H8rs
Re: For SMG H8rs
lol
You can buy crashbox parts for a getrag 420. I'd do that in a heartbeat over SMG.

That's the way my M3 will be.

Couldn't have said it better.

Re: For SMG H8rs
I'm not really into anything newer than '95 for the most part, but if I were going to buy an E60 ///M5 it would have been with the SMG. They engineered it that way, and apparently the manual was an afterthought demanded by customers and wasn't engineered as well to play together.
I really wouldn't mind an SMG, but until I cave and accept new cars I'll have no use.

The SMGs aren't bad, really. I've driven E60 and E63 Ms with both transmissions. The regular manuals are the same transmission the v8 models came with. They all eat clutches like the high torque motors that they are.rmiddendorf wrote:I'm not really into anything newer than '95 for the most part, but if I were going to buy an E60 ///M5 it would have been with the SMG. I still wouldn't have the SMG. I wouldn't know what to do with my left leg.

The fact that SMG M3's are A. way more common on the second hand market and B. way cheaper than a 6spd M3 tells you where the demand really is. The ultimate worthless E46 M3 would be a SMG Vert. The only reason to buy a SMG car is if you can get a low mile clean example for cheap, just to convert it to a proper 6spd later.
I'm not going to be swayed by some "article" posted on a site that is nothing but 17 year olds sharing photos of hand me down daily drivers, including but not limited to; flat black buick lesabres, mercury sables with plastidip and honda civics with acura EL front end swaps.
Also, is it me or does the SMG shifts seem pretty... slow? I know the newer 7spd DCT shifts really fast (and is still clunky at low speeds, confirmed this in a brand new M4) but the SMG in those videos seems to shift lazy. Maybe the "shift ferocity" wasn't cranked up to 6.

S6 destroys transmissions, so don't do that. It's amazing how upset people get lol, I do agree a 6 speed car is a better car. It is a betters drivers car and collectors car. I have experienced an SMG e46 M3 on track and street, frankly it's really not that bad for what it is. It is nothing close to an slush box.offroadkarter wrote:The fact that SMG M3's are A. way more common on the second hand market and B. way cheaper than a 6spd M3 tells you where the demand really is.
