Todd was kidding about the turbo not being hooked up. It's a nice flat power band, just thought it would make north of 600 being an LS engine.
What psi was that dyno run..?
The engine is capable of making far more power with a bump in boost, fuel, etc. but there really is no point unless you're looking to wave a Hp number around... a number that you can only realize on a dyno. The chassis is more of a limiting factor than anything else.

There comes a stage where more power on the street is pointless, 500hp is more than enough to put you over twice the speed limit in just a few seconds.

If it was a drag car, or did some circuit work etc, you might want all the power it can produce, but at the same time, what then becomes the weak point? Start destroying CV's in the driveshafts, blowing up diffs, tailshafts etc.

I can possibly see the point of tuning it for a higher boost setting so you could switch to on the odd occasion for extra fun, but I still haven't even done that on my Skyline, and 17psi is more than enough (350rwkws) even though my whole setup is good for 30psi, same reason here, gearboxes become a weak point, tyres dont last half as long, I prefer to keep my license and so on.

If you've ever driven a 500hp at the wheels car, you know it's more than enough for the street

More than enough for who and for what? More than enough for the Prius guy? You?
Not me.

;)

btw todds your build is fantastic just commenting on the "who needs THAT much power. Pointless!" excuses I'm seeing.

I'm with stoney on the more than enough power on the street. After dd'ing a foxbody with 625rwhp (625 on race gas :D ) for a year in a major city you begin to realize it is very pointless. You can't really mess with anyone from a stop because you have no traction unless you use some drag radial but then you're in a mf'ing death trap with a single drop of water on the road. The highway isn't any better, sideways at 60mph, while exhilarating is also scary as shit and after that in about two seconds you are at 120+ and climbing rapidly. But to each their own, just don't kill anyone or yourselves out there.

This car here is so f'ing rad, brilliant work Todd

Thanks Delvin. One more go round with the car this winter and I am going to have it right where I want it mechanically.

Lets see....Removes turbo M30 setup after blowing up a few motors, adds V8 turbo setup, blows up v8 turbo setup, rebuilds v8 and keeps low boost.
Not hating in anyway love the entire build, very meticulous, clean, just thought the whole reason for swapping in the v8 was for more power...?

End of the season wrap up:

Drove the car all season with no real issues. I have a long list of small things to fix/refine/improve. The only major item to repair is the trans. My junkyard Camaro T56 is tired. Synchros are junk. I did take the car to the dragstrip but the transmission stone walled me on upshifts. Really disappointing because my 2nd launch resulted in a 1.65 60ft (personal best in an e28). So the car still works at this power level and should be nasty once the trans cooperates and allows a full throttle shift. I also plan on going to a bigger compressor wheel and turbine if funds allow.

No good times. Can't shift the car from 1st to 2nd at WOT. Ran an 11.67 with major pause between 1/2, 2/3 and 3/4 shifts.

You should throw a new T-56 magnum in, that'll hold up to everything you throw at it. I have one I'm putting in another car right now actually.

I am buying internals to support 600rwhp and having it rebuilt locally.

For how much? A magnum supports 700tq and is about 3 grand

$400 labor and about $850 in parts.

Plus the case was extensively modified to fit properly in the tunnel.

Valid argument then . Can't beat that price.

This is such an awesome setup! I can't wait for my neighbor down in Kearney to get his LS swap running so I can go for a ride. Todd, do you have plans to be at The Vintage this year?

I'm going to stir the pot- it's Duke that likes to waive the dyno numbers around , not Todd. (Admittedly, I'd like to waive some dyno numbers around too. :( )

Thanks Mike. I have not touched it yet this off season. I have purchased new wheels and tires for it. (staggered style 66) and sticky tires in an attempt to make it more streetable). I have a long list of improvements to make to the car. Probably get motivated in March when it potentially starts to warm up. No idea about Vintage.

Thanks Mike. I have always liked style 66. Running Hankook rs3 which are wide and sticky. Fitment is perfect. BTW, I am planning on making it to Vintage.

Minor update:

I have been driving the car regularly with no issues. I switched to Style 66 with 235/255 sticky Hancook. Cars hooks up much better. I was bored with the quiet exhaust so I removed both mufflers and installed a single small Borla in the rear. 5"x15" round case. Exhaust note is proper. Deeper sounding. I am really happy with it. G-Pro video soon.

I have been thinking about bumping the boost to 12psi but there really is no point. Car just runs so great now. I plan to rebuild the t56 this winter so I can finally get a good pass at the dragstrip next spring.

Warm day, warm engine, warm pavement, full tank of gas, passengers, 255 Hancooks = good traction. Easy roll into the throttle.

Sideview if you ever wondered what that rear tire is doing:

Nice! That's one sleeper for sure. With the change in mufflers, it sounds tame & not too aggressive.
