Intercooler piping size.

Post by JonMcCann13 »

So. Time to throw on the intercooler and get a 10lb Spring.

On the e24 there is a spot behind the grill I can route a 2" pipe through without cutting into my radiator support. I can make 2.5" fit but I have to cut the area out. The intercooler has a 2.5" inlet and outlet.

The question is should I run a 2" pipe from the compressor to the spot behind the grill and adapt it to 2.5" at the intercooler and then go 2.5" all the way to the throttle body. Or. Could I run 2" into and out of the intercooler And adapt it to throttle body size closer to the throttle body.

The reason I ask is with a 2" turbo outlet is 2" cfm rating the most the turbo will flow anyway and is more than 2" a waste anyway. I don't know what power I'm making currently but I'm trying to top out at about 400 ish.

Thoughts?

I saw an old jaguar at the strip reking everyone he hooked up and had the power.
It was a LS turbo motor there was this one spot he had to crush the pipe down super thin like 2 fingers wide, by the water pump.
Still made the power though.
