Tapping block for oil return bung

Post by tig »

Most people seem to tap the oil pan for the oil return line. I've seen some folks tap the block.

I think I'd prefer to tap the block (which is not yet installed in a car). I read someone tapped it here (see 'X"):

I was thinking of a weld on bung like this:

In AN -10.

Thoughts?

Since I like my a/c that spot would have been a bit inconvenient. I simply did a 1/2 npt fitting on mine.

Tapping the block potentially makes the oil return more difficult to route and possibly an issue for sufficient pitch. Weld a bung in the oil pan.
