Did you happen to pick that up from the Nashville area from the previous owner? Looks familiar.

Please don't call it an M535i replica. It isn't.

He is not trolling. I've never seen an M535i without sport seats, so I am not sure how it is a replica. Maybe you are in the process of making it a replica, but I would not say it is there yet. GLWS

It is just the inspiration. Don't over analyze it. Just post on here if you interested in the vehicle. Or email me through craigslist. Thanks!

What Chris said. Looks like a nice enough car without the exaggeration & embellishment. I would've done a lot of things differently (including the ad title), but this isn't the place to get into that. Hope you find a buyer for it.

And btw, Chris isn't "trolling". Like many of us, he has a bit more of vested interest in this site; those of us who have made this site what it is don't want it trashed up by misleading for sale ads by guys who sign up just to sell something. Chris' ~50,000 posts speak to that investment, as does your 6. You invited the criticism by coming to an enthusiasts forum and posting an ad with a misleading title. The easy way to deal with that is to change the title and call the car what it is. The title on your CL ad does a better job of describing the car.

In case the ad disappears (wouldn't be surprised if this one did)...
1987 BMW 535i E28 - $13000 (Knoxville)
M5 or M535i replica. I hate to sell my 535i but unfortunately it has to go. Previous owner invested over $35k. 5-speed manual. Mechanically the 3.5 motor has been bored, stroked, balanced, and blueprinted now 3.7 liters thanks to mahle 9.2:1 pistons, euro m5 crank, euro head with big m30 valves, schrick 292' cam. Lightened flywheel and sachs performance clutch. Less than 8000 miles on rebuild. Bavarian Autosport headers and tri-flow exhaust. Full racing dynamics suspension including springs, stress, and sway bars. Short shift kit. Zimmerman drilled discs front and rear. 17x8 lightweight BBS RK'S on BFG G- force sports. Full sikkens repaint in original cirrus blue metallic and added BMP M535i bodykit and M5 decklid spoiler.

181,000 Miles on body with less than 8,000 on rebuild.
-Cluster recently rebuilt/refurbished by Bavarian Restorations in San Francisco. Original odometer. Blue needles added.

I understand the dislike of the replica moniker used on this car. There really isn't anything M535i about it.

A better term for this would be a whatever car it was and a list of the modifications.

Appears to be a BMP aero kit on the car. Better on the car than not as they are hard to fit.
Appears to have a number of Racing Dynamics parts installed, too.
Since the rear spoiler came on the 535is, US M5 and M535i, maybe that is the nod to replica mentioned.

I would call this a Racing Dynamics upgrades on a whatever is underneath, 524td or 528e whatever, motor swap if it didn't start as a 535i since it is now a worked version of that motor.

I'd sell it for what it is, not what someone wants it to be. Let the buyer decide what he wants it to be. You just want it gone and what appears to be falsely proclaiming it to be one thing really hurts your credibility on this board. What else do we need to be aware of if this is someone that talks about the car this way. Nothing against you, no idea of your knowledge base on this car and its options, features, upgrades and such. If you need help describing it, this group and tell you all about almost everything on the car except the blue needles. We are here to help.

Since you are open to questions, will you properly represent and describe this car in an ad here on mye28 or do we have to go on the misleading CL post?

My creds: I have been on this forum for almost 4 years and I have not made a peep other than buying some much needed parts for my 1988 535i + I grew up on 80's and 90's BMW's etc..

I don't know the owner but I live in Knoxville, TN and have seen the car several times on the road + I sat in it twice and did a descent walk around. I take my two BMW's to the same shop as the owner Kadunza here in Knoxville which is turning out to be a well respected shop for older BMW's in the Southeast. I hear what everyone is saying about the car... and I get it. Most don't have 13K out of the box for a E28 and there is this and there is that with the car.

But this is (my opinion) but shared by many around here in Knoxville...this car looks real good!!! The parts both mechanical and aesthetics are really Racing D. + exhaust sounds nice and according to the shop the car is truly the "business." However, all this relative to your personality. The owner just put a good chuck of money into the car as well (don't know specifics). The main thing for me would be how it drives with all the mods etc. for this price?

So really this post is for the folks that have taken some consideration for the car and are on the fence. Just wanted to help... just my 10 cents.

Good luck to both seller and future owner. Hope a fair deal is worked out.

Doesn't matter if the car is any good or not. Being advertised as something it's not.

When it could be advertised as something more rare and maybe even better.

we don't take kindly to inaccurate claims and such. A rewording of the ad to describe what it is instead of what it isn't would go a long way to making this community accept the ad and the sellers intentions, maybe even move the car for him.

What the hell..everyone's doing it...

If you listen to...well...everyone but your neighbor....remove that ridiculous 3.7 glued on body emblem from under the hood (or incorporate it into your trunk badge, i.e. "537i"), change the title to 'high performance e28 535i with popular modifications' (or similar) repost and ask what ever you want for it. It's not an m535i or a replica of one. It's that simple. Otherwise, continue to deal with the relentless wrath of this forum. I've felt it...it's not pretty. I would personally remove the 'M' grill badge as well, yet another flag for the purist. If you read the silver lining in this post, people are not telling you the car isn't special or worth your asking...I think you're underestimating what a plus that is with this crowd. All just friendly advice and conjecture, take or leave.

FYI. I do think the car is awesome. I saw it in my searches and added it to the non-affiliated thread not knowing you had already posted here. GLWS!
