Original Owners Manual Case

Post by Machtig »

What did the US and euro spec M5s come with from the factory as far as owners manuals and did they come in some sort of leather case? Mine is just in a plastic sleeve, but I can't tell if it is original equipment or not.

Good question. Interested in the responses. Mine came with a plastic sleeve too.

At least at our dealership I never saw anything but the plastic sleeve. They were removed with all of the paperwork by the time we did the PDI, and when they came in for service they were in the plastic sleeves when we pulled them out to stamp the books.

By the time the E34 came out they might have had those. I left the dealership in June 1989 and there were still a couple of E28 M5's at local dealers still sitting in new car inventory.

That piece reminds me of the line of leather accessories BMW had back in the early 90s. I had the suit jacket pocket-sized wallet with a small roundel inside and the tricolor outside. Left it in an airport somehow. Biggest non-event in my life, losing a wallet.

Don't know if this was part of that line of Lifestyle Accessories or not but if the OP thinks that pos is worth any kind of money like he is asking he would put some damn dimensions in the ad so that prospective buyers could determine if their automotive paperwork would even fit in that case/pouch. It was not original to the car.

When you say plastic sleeve do you mean the white plastic book-like thing that opens up with space for the manuals on one side in a pocket and a molded section on the other side for the cassette head cleaning mechanism? I must have three of those things lying around.

The standard plastic sleeve was the clear plastic with a pocket on each side for the books.

The top plastic sleeve is what mine came with when I bought the car from the third owner in 2008, the bottom is what I recently got off eBay. Probably hard to read but that plastic BMW roadside assistance card has M5 VIN 2875153, which is not my VIN? If this is your VIN let me know and I'll ship you the card. Also have an extra plastic sleeve case if anyone needs one, $free99
