Feeler: Group buy for a custom expansion tank
I had a custom expansion tank made that doubles as a strut bar. The shop that made it did an excellent job putting it together. The build quality is top notch. I thought I'd offer up the possibility of having a small batch of these made for those looking for an alternative to the stock plastic tank and/or to free up some space in the engine bay.
The Strut-Tank Expansion-Bar, or "STEB," allows for stock m30 coolant line connections. I know a lot of people here could probably make their own, but I figured what the heck- we already have all the data for the machine work and tested one out already.
Pricing these is still in question. I wanted to get the feeler out to gauge interest. It's not going to be a cheap part, but it all depends on demand and what I can work out with the fabricator and his machinist.
Let me know what you guys think. If it's a bust, no big deal- just looking to provide the community with neat stuff when I can.

Nice! I already have a strut bar, so I have the mounting rings. Would they do just the tank/bar? I'd love to simplify the engine compartment. Any problems with oil filler access?

This is the most legit item I saw at the Vintage event. Hell...In recent memory.

Does this include the strut tower plates? I'm in for one, possibly 2. This would be the perfect solution for upcoming changes with my build.

As long as the rings are aluminum, he can do it. You will need a long funnel to fill oil- no change from my last strut bar though.marc79euro645 wrote:Nice! Pretty fucking cool Mike. Any worrying about this cracking from traditional stress on the towers? Hown does theveryone volume compare to the stock tank?

This holds right at a liter of coolant. I don't know what a stock tank holds at the full mark. The idea to go this route came from my engineer friend when I wanted to hang a tank from the strut bar. The bar ends are machined inserts welded in to carry the load. The pipe diameter, thickness and the use of a billet rad neck is enough to offset to hole in the pipe to add coolant.

What in the!?!? Very strange. i'd do it but don't have a e28.

Ok, the PMs are coming in for a price. If we could a group buy of 10 I could do better.
As it stands, these would be $750 shipped in the CONUS.

Very cool solution!
Unfortunately too pricey and not necessary for my current setup. I think the flipped throttle body people should consider this! The tank will always be above the engine which will help the system to bleed out air bubbles automatically.
