Tried to move my car to the driveway, and no start. Crank and crank, nothing. I wrongly assumed it was the main fuel pump since it had been sputtering before and thought maybe it was finally time. Also, I had the part already, so thought might as well replace it. 20 minutes for peace of mind. Then I thought maybe it was the fuel pump relay, so I ordered one from NAPA, and they get me the 5 prong instead of a 4 prong. I will try to jump the fuses tomorrow so I can stop guessing. I'm also thinking it's the Crankshaft Position Sensor, but I had replaced that a little over a year ago, although I don't remember if I cracked one on installation. Will also test tomorrow. I'm just glad I was able to get home after work yesterday and this problem appeared at home.

Last night I went ahead and tightened the gland nut at the bottom of the steering column.
Wow!
Not only it removed the clicking noise from the steering, but also a clunk I thought was coming from the front end.
Car feels much tighter now :D

And I'll bump this one too since I accidently posted this in the wrong thread!

I started my e28 this evening for the first time since I "crashed" it into a driveway last July. There was lots done in between then and now, but it fired right up and ran with no issues for the roundabout of the neighborhood.

Finally relented and towed it to work, where the master tech could take a look at it. Turns out it was the fuel pump. Problem was that the one I bought online from pelican parts didn't work right, so I would get no fuel. After installing a Bosch pump, we thought it would work, but still no start. Apparently there was a piece of rubber stuck in the fuel line, which was probably why it didn't start in the first place. Now running happily.

Today The Princess (my wife's name for the M535i, and it's sticking) just sat in the garage, staying out of the blasted early snow we got overnight. Yesterday I wanted to take it out for an evening drive, but it had apparently been a little too long since I'd last driven it, and had left the trunk open overly long yesterday afternoon, so the battery didn't have enough oomph to turn the engine over. A little quality time with the charger took care of that. My little romp around town was cut short though when it started raining.

The Princess doesn't do rain.

So back to the garage we went. Wiped it down and tucked it in again. Now I need to find a storage spot for it for the winter. Sad time.

Oil change and new oil pan gasket. The Bentley manual states that you can remove the oil pan without raising the motor in a 528e. Technically, it is correct, since all you have to do is remove the oil pump. Which wasn't too hard to remove or put back-the challenge is getting the torque wrench in there and torquing the bolts correctly. I used the zip-tie trick to keep the gasket aligned, one at each corner. Finally-no more oil leak.

I blew the dust off of it, and looked for an indoor spot to winter it. :(

Swapped out some relays, starting right up now. Also was able to take the Black Baron to the muffler shop to get two brackets welded on because my exhaust tips bracket broke off. So now they are centered and sturdy.

Took my spare $3 brass key, put a dab of RTV on it, and stuck it to the inside of the louver trim piece thing on the C pillar. Shark is now parked for the winter.

I repainted the carpeted panel the rear speakers go into. Went from faded light blue back to OEM-ish gray/anthracite color. Very happy with the result I’ll edit with pictures after I upload them to something :ohyeah:

Installed new bulbs in my window switches. Discovered that there were different versions, the ones in my car had no provision for bulbs, the ones from the junkyard (identical year and car) did have them.

I purchased it, finally an e28 owner. I definitely have my work cut out for me, but looking forward to digging into this car with the bentley manual, and tackling the million mini projects one by one

I'm cleaning up the parts to put my heater core back in.
Someone else had been in there to replace the a/c expansion valve, they broke off the drain nipple. I glued back on what was left, and fitted a tube into the hole that the nipple will sit in, allowing the housing to drain.
I pray it goes back together as easy as it came out (3hrs)

This car was listed in the For Sale section of the forum, sounds like the project was too big for the previous owner to handle at this time. I'll have to start a thread in the Eye Candy Section to track progress

Put the new registration sticker on. It failed SMOG the first time around because I didn't get the catalytic converter hot enough.

Spent the morning tracking down the source for my power windows not working. Have constant power to the relay, but when the ignition is turned on there is no power to activate the relay. Got the ETM and am locating the connectors, but am trying to avoid ripping out the dash to check the splices... Regardless the E28 knowledge is growing!

It's getting cold around here*, and the wife wants "her" garage space back, so it was time for The Princess to be relegated to the storage unit. I spent a little time cleaning it up, checking fluids, etc.... I pulled out most of the seats so I can work on reconditioning them over the winter, then had a slightly spirited drive to an undisclosed location hidden in rural parts. Removed the driver's seat, pulled the battery, and tucked it in with the e34 cover. It looks a little lonely in there.

Yes, it kinda sucks living in a place where I can't drive my favorite car for a few months of the year, but it comes with the territory. There are other perks that make living here bearable; it's home. Until spring...

* just for fun I checked the temperature of the beer I pulled out of the garage yesterday; a chilly 28°F. Not cold enough to freeze a 10% ABV quad, but it was a little slushy at the top.

Cleaned all chrome bits with good old Turtle Wax chrome polish. Cheapest on the market, but it did a good job.

Saw an e12 at the yard today and jumped all over those chrome door handles. Took them home and put them on my 35is :)
