Received my Borbets that i've been waiting on. Tires will go on tomorrow, and hopefully mounted on the car. Also got to work on prepping my bumpers for paint. I've been holding on to these for too long.

Maybe I should start my own Eye Candy thread...

I updated the way my OBC box mounts from the OBC 1 style to the OBC 2 style. Basically I bought a 1988 528e as a parts car, needed the lower dash panel which required this change. But luckily every bolted up pretty well. Just had to cut off the bottom of the OBC 2 mount to accommodate the larger computer.

Mounted my Borbet type A wheels a couple days ago. Looks good, but needs about an inch of lowering to me. Feels great to drive, except for my rear diff mount clunking.

Today I got gas, gunned it a little down a nice straight, then it died on me. Held up a turning lane for a few cycles. Some tries later, it comes back to life. Drove home. This has happened in the past, but I thought I had fixed the issue. Time for more diagnostics.

Recently did valve adjustment and replaced some items due to poor fuel mileage and performance.

10 years ownership and almost 100K miles in my ownership. Mileage has slowed down due to my shorter commute, but I still drive it almost every day.
25.6mpg average over 93k miles.

Replaced alternator, belts, o2 sensor, Coolant temp sensor. Also put on snow tires and wheels 15x7 BBS RA's(et11) in time for some weather.

Next up, time to reupholster sport seats that have been falling apart for over 8 years of use.

Hmmm, for what? Seems like I heard about your E24 being in a shunt and out of commission. A new acquisition?

Yeah, the e24 decided it wanted to have a CVT instead of a Getrag 265. It's parted out and gone.

New acquisition won't be acquired until next weekend, probably. So of course the logical thing is to start buying parts for a vehicle that I don't actually possess yet.

I pulled the seats from the M535i when it went into storage, and I’ve been working them with some Leatherique into the leather. I also wanted to work on the steering wheel, but it was still in the car, so I went out and pulled it yesterday so I can work on it during the snow storm we’re in for this weekend. Also pulled the instrument cluster; odometer gear time. The outside temperature was 9 degrees; didn’t think that would be a factor for a quick job like that, but my hands didn’t tolerate the cold very well. Dang that’s cold! Probably didn’t help that the tools I used were cold too.

Image

In pulling the steering wheel, I also ended up dinging the center emblem. One of these days maybe I’ll remember BEFORE trying to pry it out that the tool needs to go in from the side, not the top or the bottom. Good thing I have a couple spares.

I've done that, I call it parts for a car to be acquired later.

Changed the Zobelbraun Eta rear passenger door glass from clear to green, replaced all of the window guides and weather seals, replaced the window chrome trim with shadow line trim and replaced the chrome door side mouldings with shadow line side mouldings.

One door down three more to do

Had a full day. Replaced the non functional original antenna and replaced it with an aftermarket one that was in the parts car I bought. Wired up a $19 Amazon keyless entry. Took it for a decent drive, forgetting the speedo didn't work. The first time I've driven it more than just around the block. Came home, swapped in another speedo from the parts car, test drove, GREAT SUCCESS! That apparently made the mpg gauge work too. Realized the coolant gauge doesn't work. Ugh. PO said gas gauge doesn't work. I put a little gas in it, seems to work fine. On the way home from the second test drive had to turn on the lights. The rear lights and license plate lights warning came on, even though they were working when I finally got home. Finally, I replaced the odometer gears.

Got my motorcycle license. After the test, I was so excited that I got too rowdy at a U-turn and pushed my front valance in a little. Left foglight pushed downwards. Good thing I have some Mtechnic bumpers just ready to be painted and fitted.

Oh nice. Welcome to the best worst decision you’ll ever make.

My new to me e28 made it home on Saturday. Parked it in the garage next to my Ducati and haven’t touched it since. Just has too much other stuff going on this weekend.

I spend most of Sunday working on the surging idle issue. Finally decided to be methodical about it. I knew the throttle cable was loose and after reading about the throttle plate adjustment, I decided to clean the throttle body. The cable wasn't able to be adjusted anymore so I added small washers behind the plastic adjuster. After that the idle stopped surging! Then it started again. It only surges once the engine warms up. So I checked for vacuum leaks again, this time finding a slight one around the hose that comes off the valve cover to the accordion hose. I fitted that tighter and the surging stopped. I now have that hose and a new throttle cable on order. It still idles high, around 1000 rpm but that is for another day.

On a side note:
I started by tapping the ICV slightly with a hamer, pulling it's connector and touching a 9v battery to it. It did spark a little but didn't solve the issue. BUT now when I turn the ignition on before cranking I hear a "THUNK" "THUNK" noise. It's pretty loud. I still have to get the GF out there to help me figure out what that is. Hopefully I didn't screw up the ICV.

Exchanged clear Euro fog lights for a pair of Euro yellow fog lights and I recently acquired from Felipe "dogabon"

Changed the Zobelbraun Eta front passenger and front driver door glass from clear to green, replaced all of the window guides and weather seals, replaced the window chrome trim with shadow line trim and replaced the chrome door side mouldings with shadow line side mouldings.

Three doors down one more to do

Removed the bumpers. The front valance was too damaged, so I had to remove it. Then I looked at a valance-less front end and thought, "Nah. better just remove the whole thing." Still not too much of a fan of the look, but it's not permanent. Will call around for paint quotes later this week.

I seemed to have fixed my coolant gauge by simply cleaning the sensor terminal.

Changed the Zobelbraun Eta rear driver door glass from clear to green, replaced all of the window guides and weather seals, replaced the window chrome trim with shadow line trim and replaced the chrome door side mouldings with shadow line side mouldings.

All four doors mechanisms now lubricated and running like a well oiled Swiss watch. Found out why the window wouldn't work, the motor plug was disconnected from the loom

Ordered some Dynamat extreme from Amazon to retrofit onto the inside of the door skin.

Acquired a couple of complete sets of window guides and seals from the main stealers in the UK back in 2016, before moving to Canada in 2017.
