Defogger switch lamp Question
Defogger switch lamp Question
A simple one: When is the defogger switch lamp supposed to be on? Mine lights up only with the switch engaged.
Shouldn't it also light up together with the dash lights?

TY, Much appreciated!
Re: Defogger switch lamp Question
Yes! it should be dim with parking lights and full on with the switch engaged, i think there's a resistor and a diode or something similar inline, you could check that on the ETM those components are detailedFederico wrote: Sep 16, 2020 8:05 PM A simple one: When is the defogger switch lamp supposed to be on? Re: Defogger switch lamp Question
Well, I checked the internals of the switch, and other than a bit of corrosion everything was in order. Diode and resistor tested ok.
After cleaning the switch and reinstalling it, I was still getting no light with the dash lights on. The switch only illuminated when engaged, bright with dash light off and dim with dash lights on.
So, I decided to go scrutinize the euro diagrams:
By the looks of it, this switch is not supposed to light up unless it is engaged. I guess Early Euro E28 = Quirky as frig.
I'll add this to my top ten quirks list, together with the changeover relay that deactivates the rear fogs when the high beams are on.

Re: Defogger switch lamp Question
I got my hard copies from a gentleman in Germany a few years ago.
They consist of 3 books (Band 1;2;3), covering Euro versions, US, Japan, Taxi, Etc.
Apparently, you can now download pdf versions from the site that John posted. Nice!

That might be because in some countries (France for sure) it's only legal to use the rear rain lights when it's actually raining...Federico wrote: Oct 02, 2020 6:44 PM I'll add this to my top ten quirks list, together with the changeover relay that deactivates the rear fogs when the high beams are on.
