Power Adjustable Seat and Window Hack
Power Adjustable Seat and Window Hack
Wondering if anyone has retro fitted (hack) any new adjustable seat motors and/or window motors with any other newer and readily available motors from cars which would otherwise get my M5 passenger seat to operate again? My window motors are operable but they are running slow. If there aren't any proven hacks, has anyone had success getting them rebuilt? Is rebuilding even possible? ....my first E28, go easy on me, LOL
Re: Power Adjustable Seat and Window Hack
Just saw this, it would probably have gotten more traction in the Tech Talk subforum. Regardless, welcome to the board!
On the windows, getting them running at a decent speed is usually just careful cleaning and regreasing of the window track inside the door. The grease tends to dry up and turn into sticky goo rather than a lubricant. Not as fast as new cars, but a respectable speed. Seats? None that I know of, complicated by the fact that to the best of my knowledge none of the comfort seat parts directly interchange with the sport seat parts. But there is some hope, they all seem to use the same square drive cable that looks like an old speedo cable and even up into E39 vintage it appears to be the same size drive cable, so perhaps you could adapt something from a newer car.

Thanks Mike, i appreciate the tips. The window tracks relube sounds like a great starting point and hopefully enough to get them moving more freely.

Re: Power Adjustable Seat and Window Hack
With your car whatever it is unless the question is specifically about the ///M5 motor or three things only found on the M535i any tech question should probably be asked in the tech section. Many here don't drop into this forum very often. But Mike already said the tech forum was better.
The Windows of the E28 are slow. My E23 has much faster Windows. It is something I've just gotten used to. Reliving the track inside the door is about all you can do but some like to put silicone spray on the window guides (gaskets). I don't want them to collect and keep dirt so I don't do that.
As to the power seat if you hear the motor trying to work, maybe cleaning the gearbox the motor operates will help it run right. Otherwise maybe you can find a good used sport seat motor base and swap it.
