E28 Euro Bumpers from Vietnam?
E28 Euro Bumpers from Vietnam?
Sorry if this topic has been covered already, but I haven't seen it.
I'm sure some of you have also come across these new euro bumpers from Vietnam (maybe became available last year for the first time).
https://www.ebay.com/itm/275689411416
Has anyone tried these out yet? Sure beats the current market rate for a perfect set...

What about the mountings? Do you have to buy them separately? Are all the moldings readily available? I still have questions. Please keep us updated.
Re: E28 Euro Bumpers from Vietnam?
Hello Gentlemen,
Success!!....Last night going to bed and sleep like a baby. Bumpers are very good quality for a aftermarket part (in a scale from 1 to 10 they are 9.8). Thickness is about 2 mm, stainless steel, black primed in the rear (Don't know why) all the parts fits perfectly (out of the car) and looks great and shine. Not perfect 10 due to both front and rear central parts have the extremes welded not stamped in the same piece (see the pictures, maybe my explanation is not good enough) but when all is together is not visible.
The set include all the parts for front and rear bumpers but no the mountings to the car nor the black front and rear rubbers (must to use the old ones). Next step is the in car fitment but that should be in two or three weeks more (car is in job painting).

Re: E28 Euro Bumpers from Vietnam?
Wow they look much nicer than the ebay photos show! Let's hope they fit right.
Oh, I get it: the recess/step at each end is a strip welded from the inside, not stamped. If it's all stainless, then it should be no problem! The corner pieces probably fit better with that sharper step.

Re: E28 Euro Bumpers from Vietnam?
I didn't expect them to be stainless steel. They look pretty nice.
Re: E28 Euro Bumpers from Vietnam?
Those look pretty good! I wonder why the inside is painted black though.
I recall in the 90's (during my youth) that my dad's VW beetle/bus new replacement bumpers were stainless - but rusted out within a few short seasons of driving.
Looks like there are two sets sold on eBay now, someone here was inspired?

You guys should recognize these - I strongly suspect that they were (and maybe still are?) sold by a member of mye28 first. Now they're available from Ebay - for better or worse. If I didn't already have a set of Euro bumpers, I would seriously consider these.

Re: E28 Euro Bumpers from Vietnam?
They may have been made from 409 stainless, which isn't very corrosion resistant. The e28 bumpers above are 304 stainless which is pretty good in that regard.richardb wrote: Jun 13, 2023 6:55 PM I recall in the 90's (during my youth) that my dad's VW beetle/bus new replacement bumpers were stainless - but rusted out within a few short seasons of driving.
Re: E28 Euro Bumpers from Vietnam?
Wanted to know how can one tell if it is 409 vs 304? should there be a stamp? trying to find out if what i have is one or the other.stuartinmn wrote: Jun 14, 2023 6:35 AMThey may have been made from 409 stainless, which isn't very corrosion resistant. Re: E28 Euro Bumpers from Vietnam?
Description at eBay is SS 304 and I'v not ever had my hands a piece of SS 409 (or I think so...) but is easy to check using a magnet. 409 is more iron so a magnet will stick easily compared to a SS 304.....see the link below.bronziti wrote: Jun 14, 2023 7:52 AMWanted to know how can one tell if it is 409 vs 304? should there be a stamp? trying to find out if what i have is one or the other.stuartinmn wrote: Jun 14, 2023 6:35 AM

Re: E28 Euro Bumpers from Vietnam?
How easy is it to source all of the rubber mountings for the bumpers? Are they readily available for sale or do you have to source used ones?
Re: E28 Euro Bumpers from Vietnam?
If they'd sell sets without the clip holes that would solve the molding problem.

If you're talking about the rubber trim, I checked the parts catalog at RealOEM and it appears they're still available from BMW for reasonable prices. You can go to the dealer or one of the usual suppliers like Blunttech. However, I don't know what the current situation is for ordering euro parts from the US, you may have to show proof that you own a euro car.Dimm6 wrote: Jun 15, 2023 7:51 PM How easy is it to source all of the rubber mountings for the bumpers? Re: E28 Euro Bumpers from Vietnam?
My understanding is that BMW NA has relaxed that rule somewhat, but I could be wrong.stuartinmn wrote: Jun 16, 2023 11:04 AMIf you're talking about the rubber trim, I checked the parts catalog at RealOEM and it appears they're still available from BMW for reasonable prices. Better than that is to order from Schmiedmann in Denmark: better prices than the cheapest online domestic, fast shipping, great communication, and full access to all EU parts catalogs. If the part doesn't show up in the search, just drop them a line and ask; most often if the part is still available from BMW, they can get it even if it's not in their online catalog. There is a small handling fee but this is usually offset by their cheaper initial part price.
Re: E28 Euro Bumpers from Vietnam?
Hello everyone,
Last Sunday I started to put my 525i back together after the paint job (9 of 10 points, one final polish to go) and managed to assemble and mount the rear bumper purchased from Vietnam. Everything fits perfectly, it really is made to measure and it only has one construction detail that I hadn't noticed until I had the old bumper in hand for comparison: the center part does not have the upper lip, as seen in the photo, but the material is thick enough and does not bend, so it is not necessary.
The rubber fits very well, the fastener holes are made just like the original.
I am very happy with the result and next weekend I will mount the front bumper. I'll let you know how it goes with it.

Did you already have euro bumpers on previously?
Re: E28 Euro Bumpers from Vietnam?
Yeap....is an euro 525i
Re: E28 Euro Bumpers from Vietnam?
Thanks for posting all of the details on this product! Your car looks wonderful, nice work.
I think more of us would be considering this conversion using the bumpers from this company now.
