Swapping clock for tachometer

Is it possible to straight swap clock for tachometer? Also what should I be aware of before replacing the clock in instrument cluster.
Car: 1981 520i 4spd with no tacho

I swapped my clock to tachometer with no problem.

Hello,

For your car the right tacho is 62131369997 (520i until 09/82). Still new unit at eBay.
