E28 brake master cylinder

Post by seriously111 »

I’m replacing my brake master cylinder.

1. Does anybody know what the difference is between the ABS and the non ABS version? I have ABS but the units look the same online.

2. Upgrade? A number of E30 owners upgrade their master cylinder with the E32 one from the 750il. I understand this gives a firmer pedal but is there another advantage (eg reliability)

3. There are huge differences in price out there. Has anybody encountered bad cylinders/brands to avoid or seek out?

Master cylinders were just discussed in my thread here: https://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=161648 It should answer some of your questions.

I've mentioned this before, but I don't see an E32 MC as an "upgrade." Even with the E32/34 F/R brakes, my 535i has really good pedal feel and the travel is fine. It probably doesn't hurt that I have braided stainless flex lines.
