Need front Euro bumper measurement

Post by DJM1986-5 »

Unusual request from someone who owns a Euro e28. I need the distance in inches from the face of the radiator support just below the kidney grills (the flat, painted surface thats about an inch wide and is perpendicular to the bumper surface) to the back edge of the bumper (closest to the grills) on the center point, or 'v' of the bumper - it should be about 2 or 3 inches. I am test fitting a new Euro fixture that takes the place of the NLA Euro consoles and this is a critical missing piece of the equation. Unfortunately my car is in paint with no fenders or front valance so I don't have the usual attachment points on the sides to utilize. Also, I realize this gap widens as you move away from the centerline, so I'm using the 'v' centerline. Thanks very much... Once I have these perfected they will be available to e28 members. They eliminate cutting the valance and utilize the front Euro brackets that slide into the mounts...

Didn't see this before....I have an Euro e28 but now I'm far away my home till next friday....so then I can take that measurements. I'm not sure if there are differences between an 83' and 87' euro but I can measure both models (different valance, maybe a different measure).

If you can send a picture/drawing clarifying the measurements you need should be useful.

Why inches and not millimeters if you want accuracy? This is a precision engineered car designed using metric.
Americans are terrified of the the metric system and your request for a measurement will just be rounded off to the nearest inch by those that respond.

Thank you - I'll take MM or inches. To the nearest mm or 32nd of an inch. Either will be close enough for this exercise. Again, very much appreciated.

Excellent - thank you. I suppose in the interest of science it would be proper to have a few independent measurements to average and validate just in case there are uncontrollable variances... in other words - if a few others would be kind enough to contribute the same measurement for comparison that would be great. ...42mm...

Thank you very much! Sounds like 40MM is the one. Much appreciated. The conversion bracket and final fit on the car move to the next stage.

Much appreciated. I am designing the consoles/holders so that there is a "stop" in the back at about 37mm (bumper gap) just in case there are further deviations out there. The test fit this AM was great. Achieves proper bumper height using the "as designed" euro "forks" with bottom attachment bolts through the holder and into the forks as designed. Will eliminate cutting into the facia. The holders will have "stops" and allow for cutoff of the US bumper ends with minimal guesswork. The manufactured holders/consoles will attach with bolts and/or could be spot welded in place. More to come.
