Visiting Bakersfield

Post by Nebraska_e28 »

This kid from corntown will be in Bakersfield next week training for a few days. Anyone in that neck of woods free for a brew (if my schedule allows), or can advise anything worth checking out while I'm in town?

A little more fondness for the town than Vince, but he took the words right out my mouth on Basque food. Wool Growers is very good, but I prefer Benji's. Plus being right on Rosedale Hwy/ Hwy 58 it's easier to find. Just make sure to come hungry.

Not much for the city itself, but max respect for their music scene and its' contribution to Western music, Alt-Country & Country-Western in general.

To highjack the thread for a brief bit.
Vince, I've seen your music collection. Recall, I HAVE your music collection. We gotta talk buddy!

On a related music note, you and Jay will be getting hooked up at The Biggest Little Vintage Fest. You will be happy.

A customary visit to the local pick n pull is definitely in my future. Not much room to carry in luggage going back home, but I could always ship stuff!

Hey LJ,
How was the trip and did you score anything at the yard?

Vince,
I finally got through my PC upgrade and finished getting the music you and Jay left me in 2015 sorted out. I still have to deal with the music server that is out of space before I can integrate 'em into the library though. The stereo guy comes next week.

I only found one album by Buck Owens, The Greatest Hits, in the mix. I will have to pick up some Merle and Dwight Yoakam before the drive to Reno.

See ya soon,
D.

There should be several Dwight Yokam albums in my portion of the collection. But I guess you need them in CD form for the E39 unless you've got some kind of adapter/interface?

Nope. No Dwight and no Yoakam.
Looks like we'll have to do a little more file comparison in the future.

Yup, the e39 is CD and AM/FM only.

It was a quick trip, but good to take in some new scenery. Not much to do in that town (for me), and I read it's #5 in the country for DUI. Maybe there's a correlation? I didn't get around to trying Basque food. But I did make it to Mama Roomba a little Caribbean food joint that was featured on tv! Good stuff.

I squeaked in time to hit up the yard. The doorman/guardshack/Lurch-wannabe did his best to turn me away. He said the car I was looking for was pretty well picked over & the hood (along with hood hinges) were pulled last week. In my mind, how the hell would he recall that when they have 1000+ cars there. Despite his best efforts, I walked the yard & found a barely touched 528e with 5SPEED! :x If I had tools & a way to get it home, I would've yanked it on the spot. Maybe I'll drive down next week to grab.
