adhesive for interior upholstered door surround trim

Post by blockerb »

there is an upholstered-ish trim piece that surrounds the interior door openings, it's sort of fuzzy/soft. Its coming loose on most of my doors on my 1986 stock 528e. I'm looking for a good adhesive to use to reattach and remain permanently. Anybody had any luck with this or a similar experience?

Haven’t tried this specific product but it is in the ballpark of what you want.

We don't even use that for repairing speakers. But then I don't think that the aleene's tacky glue which we generally use will hold to the rubber. I need to check that.

But that stuff might be the right thing if it is good for the rubber surrounds.

That was my angle. I couldn’t find the product I have used on that mouse fur gasket in the past but we are on the same page. In any case I suspect that any product advertised for rubbery kind of applications will work just fine. There ain’t no tension on ‘em except gravity and I’m sure it will outlast the other bits of the car.

3M Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive. It comes in yellow or black (the yellow type is commonly referred to as gorilla snot, you want the black in case any of it squeezes out and shows around the edges.) Most any auto parts store should carry it, it comes in a tube. Wear rubber gloves, if you get it on your hands you'll be wearing it for a while.

Just a note...
This doesn't affect the OP but ya can't get the 3M Yellow in the Communist State of California.

You might want to check that again. I've bought several tubes of it off Amazon within the last year; no restrictions about mailing to a CA address.
In fact as a test I just threw another tube of the 08001 yellow into my cart and nothing came up with my address as delivery target :dunno:

Hmmm, interesting.
So now they allow back what may or not be toxic stuff but antiperspirant is behind locked doors at my local grocery store…?
This state is truly bizarre.

I just reattached a most of the loose mouse fir on our car with Aileen’s tacky glue and it seems to be holdin holding up well. And yes I have used it to repair speakers!

I used E6000 adhesive glue to reattach my mouse fur trim and would highly recommend it for this application. It's been holding up great for a few years. Will note that ideally you can leave the door open and let it dry for a day or two because it definitely has a smell while it's drying/curing.
