Yeat another Dinan screwing their customer story............
Yeat another Dinan screwing their customer story............
From BimmerForums. This is about Dinan charging ridiculous amounts of money to fix one of their super charger kits. They even tried to claim that the SC company was out of business and to buy a complete new kit.
Dinan ='s...................SUCKER.

After reading the thread, it would appear that Powerdyne may as well be out of business. They've had that poor guy's SC for 2 months with no progress at all and they won't send it back? What kind of bullcrap is that?
Pretty apparent why Dinan doesn't use them anymore, it really does suck that Dinan isn't standing behind or supporting the prodcuct though.

Interesting....FYI...the new Roundel has a tire article that pictures yet another Dinan modded bimmer.Duke M535ti wrote:From BimmerForums. Okay, let's play Devil's advocate. How long should Dinan support what appears to be a problematic product group. The customer mentioned having the S/C on his car for 18,000 miles. How long should Dinan be held responsible? Should Dinan stock every S/C bit forever?
I feel sorry for the guy who is obviously going through a tough time with his car. He's fallen into a crack based on what's happening with the OE support, however it seems he has some good advice coming his way.

For once el Duke and I are in complete agreement. I can't stand Dinan for their attitude and shit customer service.
So I'm pretty good buds with the parts guys at one of the local BMW dealers. They give me very good prices on everything and helped me tremendously with all the little stuff I had to order during the course of my E12 M535i engine rebuild. So I'm in there other day for something and somehow we got to talking about Dinan. My parts buddy rolls his eyes and then starts telling me about some supercharger kit that just came in for installation on a customer's car. Only problem was that Dinan forgot to include some of the hardware in the box. He told me that after many phone calls to Dinan they would not admit that they forgot to include the hardware and claimed that he must have thrown it away with the packing materials. (he told me he turned the box inside out to make sure it wasn't there). Finally they *graciously* said that they would send him the hardware he was missing for full price plus shipping. Wow, what a bunch of great guys, huh?
Now the parts guy is very easy-going and excellent to deal with. So I know it must be something real bad to get him this mad, but he said each and every time they have a Dinan part to install at their dealership, he has some problem with the parts order and Dinan is condescending and rude when he calls to get things resolved. He told me frankly that his job would be a whole lot better if he never had to deal with them again. If this is a BMW dealership making money for Dinan by pushing their product, and Dinan can't even treat them right, why would they care about a customer that they sold a supercharger kit to a long way back? Or someone with a Dinan turbo E28 M5 for that matter?
Then the other thing that pissed me off was Steve Dinan's recent letter to Mike Miller in Roundel's Tech Talk reading him the riot act for recommending ST products over Dinan. He came across as the complete a-hole that I think he his.
My own interpretation of Dinan's attitude goes something like this: "Screw what we sold you a few years ago, here's our current catalog. Call us when you want to buy something. *click*".

I totally agree.
YEARS ago I had a Dinan Turbocharged car. One day I had an issue with it (They installed it, tuned it, etc..) Less than 5k miles into ownership, 2 pistons were ruined.
Same crap. Oh, you must have used 87 Octane, oh you must have overheated it, oh etc etc etc.
It boiled down to "We got your $20k now f**k off". And your parts guy's experiences mirror mine in dealing with them. Always an excuse, never their fault.

New car manufacturers are required (I'm pretty sure) to stock parts for a vehicle for a given amount of time after manufacture. 18k miles on the kit. Even at a relatively modest, weekend warrior car of 5k miles per year, that kit is less than 4 years old.Bryan in SB wrote:Okay, let's play Devil's advocate. IMHO, given the fact that Dinan is an official aftermarket parts partner with BMW, they should keep parts on the shelf (or least have access to the parts) for their products sold within the last 5-7 years. I really don't think that's unreasonable in the least.
I agree with Robyff in terms of how long Dinan should be required to support their product; "as long as they agree to when they sold it." I don't think it's reasonable to expect or require a shop to keep parts in stock beyond warranty just because they installed, sold or manufactured them. You hope they will but that's a risk you take dealing with a bucket shop. What amazes me is how well Dinan appears to have done given their level of customer service.Bryan in SB wrote:Okay, let's play Devil's advocate. Kind of makes me glad that the only Dinan part I bought myself was my chip for half off.
The person I spoke with was cool though. He faxed me correct alignment specs for my S3 setup and because he remembered the PO of my car,
he gave me the Dinan badge because the chip gave me enough total points.
I know it's just plastic trunk candy, but it's always nice to get somthing free.
He did mention that If I ever broke a spring I would be up shat creek because they don't make them anymore.
So, I've got that to look forward to........
