I have very little knowledge of what is normal for a turbo engine so please excuse my ignorance. Today my son had a fender bender in our 1.8 T Passat. He go hit on the drivers side in front of the front tire and pushed in the fender and the head lights. This is also the location for the intercooler in this car. The car started up and ran fine but I noticed a loud hissing noise when the turbo was engaged.
Getting under the car I noticed that there was an intercooler mount that was broken off. This left a hole in the plastic bottom part of the intercooler where the air comes in from the turbo. I have done a temp fix on it by JB welding the mount back on.
What I am worried about is that there appears to have been some oil blown out of this hole. I am not talking about a large flow of oil or anything, but when I took off the underneath engine cover the area around the bottom of the intercooler was wet with the oil.
This is the lowest part of the system so any oil would collect there. But I was wondering if the presence of the oil is a sign that there is something wrong in the Turbo??
