So....TCD 635csi drag car....

Post by T_C_D »

My red car at 18.5psi went 12.097@120mph in the 1/4. How fast do you think my 635 is going to go? Here are the specs:

~3075lbs
stock m30b35 with m30b34 cam
TCD S3
20-25psi of boost
built 4hp22 with 3000 stall
3.91LSD
185s up front
8" slicks in rear

First time out will be at 17/18psi and then gradually bump it up from there. It's getting nitrous if I get bored.

This is going to be big fun. My intitial goal is 11.99 which s/b obtained on the first time out. After that 11.50. 10s is another world and takes really big power.

It'll be driven to/from the track. Trailers are for babies.

I see you also picked up an M-tech 325i. Nice work, I always thought those were pretty cool. If the rear subframe mounting points aren't reinforced, do it now. Mine appeared fine when I bought the car, and I planned on having reinforcements welded in over the winter, after the cage work and such. Too late ... RF diff carrier mount tore out of floor last week. 112k miles, stockish car (intake, chip, exhaust, coilovers ... otherwise stock). I'll get pics online soon. Anyway, the M3 reinforcement plates only cost $40 or $60, and I know you know folks who can weld (not sure if you do any yourself).

I'll go near Todds estimate and call around 11.5, maybe a low 11.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed that... 25psi in a 9:1cr engine? Ow.

The track I use has 112 octane fuel. This car will likley never see less than 100 octane when mixed with 93. It'll be driven on the street but it's going to be primarily a drag car.

What, exactly, is TCD s3? I thought the integrated intercooler/intake project got cancelled due to underhood space restrictions?

I just realized I forgot to guess. My brain seems to think mid-11s, perhaps even low 11s with the setup you listed.

12/8/06 Update

Trunk and interior are gutted and ready. Beau is working on the paint. I have sourced a bunch on 3pc race wheels and am building 15x7 for the front and 15x9 for the rear.

Todd,

your rim/s are great looking even just as it is sitting there. I'm sure that once they're refinished or done with whatever you have planned they'll look even greater.

I'm excited of the idea of a drag car made from a e24 6er. That is going to be allot of fun, for you and those watching

It's okay. It's the most attention the paint has had in years.

You'll be shocked when you see the car in Jan. Beau worked on the hood today and it's starting to look great. It's shocking.

Shiny hood picture for Sweeney.

Image

Slammed front end.

Image

Gutted trunk. Only thing left to do is swap in the 13lb battery.

Image

Gutted interior. Just needs the Recaro seat back returned from the "Artisian".

Image

We are cutting the rear springs tomorrow. The significant amount of weight removed has resulted in 1" wheel gap in the rear even with the springs on the lowest perch.

It's an Erebuni ... or, more correctly, Error-buni. It's just a thin fiberglass shell. I built a "bumper" structure and bonded it inside the shell with urethane foam. This will keep it from shattering when Todd hits a mosquito near the end of the 1/4 mile. :D

I agree. I love those wheels. They won't be on the car for much longer. The 13lb 15x7 race wheels with 185/65s will be ready for the front soon.

Nice, so what'll happen if he hits an accorn at the end of that run? ;)

Oh, and what kind of gauges are you using in that cluster?
