In the fine tradition of how I used to spend the day after Christmas as a child, I woke up way too early today and decided to amuse myself by taking something apart. Since I didn’t get any presents that lend themselves to disassembly, I decided instead to look under the skirt of the Electromotive TEC-3r that is currently employed as an ornament on the parts shelf. To my untrained eye it looked nice. It sports one PCB covered with SMDs, and a bunch of transistors firmly attached to both sides of a heatsink, which screws directly to the beefy outer housing extrusion once the board is slid in. Conformal coating all over everything, big sealed AMP connectors for the 2 main harnesses , a Weatherpack connector plug on the main power pigtail, and a stoutly mounted 9 pin d-sub for the serial to laptop connection. It also sports one jumper wire kluge, which is not too bad I suppose.
I just took the numbers off the more important looking chips and did a quick google on them for a device description. I am in way over my head on this thing, if any of you genuine electronics guru types want to comment, it would be very interesting to get some feedback on this piece of hardware, and how it compares to the other options out there, including the MS and MS2.
