Name that Manifold. (Hey RussC)

Post by GregATL »

Alright, I do not know who made this manifold. I have no idea as there are no casting marks or numbers on it. Todd thinks it's most likely a DINAN. So I am asking ya'll for some input. Here are the pics.

So, what are your opinions. Thanks for your input.

It's a Dinan.

Thanks for the confirmation Sweeney. :D That simplifies things.

What's the extra port next to the wastegate flange for?

O2 or EGT Temp probe.

How many Dinan points do you get if that is in the trunk?

Sweeny beat my to it. The extra port is for the O2, although its not threaded? Mine is and the O2 screws righ it. My manifold has Dinan cast into it.

Your going to hate that manifold for how far back it sets the turbo in the engine compartment, making fitting a bigger turbo next to impossible. Plus the way it hides the bolts for the turbo to downpipe makes R&Ring the exhaust a real pain.

Russ, yes the O2 port is threaded it just doesn't appear to be in the picture. I think someone may have ground the name off of it. It also seems to have some sort of coating(ceramic?) on the log part of the manifold. All I know is that it is really F'n tough and you have to spend a good bit of time with a grinder to cut through it.

I understand the limitations of the turbo placement but it will do for now. When I get serious about horsepower I will build a tubular manifold (not because it's better, but because I want to) and design some whacked intercooler arrangement that will be overly complicated without any significant improvement in performance potential most likely, (again because I want to) and install my standalone. I will be going through the engine at that time too.

This first setup is primarily due to the fact that I am underwhelmed by my cars acceleration currently and want to improve it's performance.

Wish me luck and I'll keep ya'll posted on my progress.

Looking at it again, it looks as though somebody drilled holes in the casting bosses on the underside of the manifold. Little holes. Do those actually go through, and if so, what the heck are they for?

Kyle found it in/on a car at his work. He was already TCD' at that point and knew I was thinking turbo so he offered it up. Since neither of us knew what kind of manifold it was I just figured worst case I'll try it out. For some reason it never even occured to me it could be a Dinan. The lack of any identifying marks is probably why. All the Dinan stuff I've ever seen has had Dinan in big letters on it somewhere.

Update, after talking with TCD some more Todd made me an offer I could not refuse. So, I will not be going with the Dinan manifold and will instead use a TCD manifold.

Todd will also supply the wastegate, turbo, injectors, etc so I am a good bit of the way into a TCD kit. Not all the way though.

Hmm, maybe I can get a badge that says "TCD S 0.5" :D
