Intercooler piping adhesive/sealant?

Post by ISO_524td »

I'm about ready to install an intercooler into my 524td. (Don't laugh!!!) Since it's a turbo diesel that generally run higher boost pressures than gassers, I'm concerned about blowing apart the IC piping connections. My boost pressure target is somewhere around 20psi.

Is there any sealant or adhesive that you would recommend to prevent this?

Thanks!

Get yourself some T-Bar clamps. They will hold 20 psi easily.

Yes. Sealant would be a mess if you ever took it apart. And you probably will.

Thanks! Fortunately the intercooler kit I got has these. Although some connections will need to be "upgraded".

Aqua net hairspray. Ive seen worm drives hold 25+ psi after the inside of the couplers are sprayed.

T-bolts and a good bead on the end of the pipes is the way to go.

....and then theres wiggins clams :alright:

Well, the first pass at this is done. Also, thanks for the hairspray idea. I'll need to take some of this apart to adjust the fueling and timing so I'll use that when I re-assemble it. I tried to insert a pic of my IC install, but it might not be allowed being that you need to be a part of the 524td group.
