All ready for the track again Wednesday...

Post by Kyle in NO »

This time I installed some "track tires" along with the ugliest E36 wheels I could get my hands on! They seem to work ok, I just hope they hook up. I refuse to boil down my good set of tires in the name of traction!

Also installed today was the S3.25 diff and refurbished CV axles, courtesy of TCD, Duke, and my parts hoard. Okay, okay, and Booker, since I am an indian giver...Hopefully this would theoretically put me into the 12s in the quarter. I know this visit will yield slower times than previously seen, as the temperature (at best) will be 30 deg. warmer! :x :x :x I may just have to wait to see that 12.99....

I hope a cold front passes through on Wednesday!

Yeah, no joke. Hotttt. I just went to the industriplex a few blocks away from my house to boil these things down to get to some soft rubber! Boy do they make some noise, nothing but screeching and howling! Several snaking black stripes and figure eights later, I think they still suck....just hope they get da job done.

Kyle are you going to drop the air pressure on the rears ? Or is there a minimum pressure you have to run ? Johnny

I would Kyle, more meat on the pavement. It would be an interesting test with no other changes made except dropping the rear air pressures. ;)

tires

one thing i do know about is dragracing(still learning about e28  )and you do not want to drop a radial tire down too far on pressure, the outside edges will only touch and it will not work as well.i went 10.10 on a 275/40/17 drag radial at 18 lbs.regular radials dont like to be as low as a drag radial.i would not go lower then 24lbs.

Also drive around the water box instead of going through it for your burn out. With a radial street tire water can collect in the tread and trickle onto the track when you stage. Also try a "shallow stage" if you want to increase your trap speed and elapse time. After the first staging ambers on the tree light up, creap forward till the second stage start to flicker. As soon as they stay solid, stop. This will increase your roll out so the vehicle speed will be higher before the timer starts. :alright:
Have fun!
