Sweeney finished the wastegate this weekend. It's a brand new Tial 38mm gate with custom housing that is a direct fit to the 745i elbow. This part will not require a core charge and uses all brand new parts. Target price is $399 or less.
This one will be on my 745i by the end of the week. I cannot wait to have good control of the boost. My current wastegate is totally worn out. Boost flucuates between 11psi and 3psi.
Have you guys also thought about making a piece that replaces the lower section (elbow) shown in the photo and then moving the location of the wastegate? This would do two things, allow clearance between the strut tower and the waste gate for motor swaps and allow the use of an off the shelf wastegate with the 745 setup.
In general...what would such a casting cost? What would a fab'd stainless piece cost?
I was going to make a replacement for the elbow before I came up with this solution. The feeling is that most people will want to retain the stock WG downpipe on the 745 so this solution works best.
In the case of doing an engine swap, using a WG relocation adapter and making a new downpipe/WG downpipe, you may as well use one our TCD manifolds with a modern turbo, etc. for not a whole lot more money.
You can set boost a whatever level you choose with a Tial. You can either install different tension springs or use the top port with a boost controller.
I installed the wastegate on my 745i Thursday and have been happily boosting a solid 9psi. I need to disable or trick the ecu before exceeding 10psi. The ecu kills fuel if it sees above 10psi.
yeh, the motronic hates over 10psi, the 059 that is or maybe even the ecu for the 745i, but you guys (TCD) sell a real nice chip to allow for more boost on the 059 ECU right? Im pretty sure you do.
Yea, the problem with going to an 059 box is that you lose your knock box control, sport trans control, and you need a different AFM, and different injectors.
Umm,
Doesn't the Tumo chip fix the 10psi issue with 745i ECU? I havent' looked at it in a long time. Although Tumo has just updated his site. Links are at Scottie Sharps web site for the 745i. Maybe a look over there will tell.
