Any tips for installing a MegaSquirt kit???
OK, so I just bought a Mega Squirt kit from DIYAutoTune.com. Anyone with one of these have any tips for me? Gonna go at this on my own!
wiring up the MS to the e28 is not that hard. I retained the use of the main, FP relay, starter/alternator harness and the connection to the fuse box. Kept the water temp wiring frrom the seensor to the fuse box connection as well.
You can get away with buying just the pig tail wiring harness for the MS and splice this into the stock harness. All you will need to the MS ecu will be 4 grounds, 12 volts acc, you can keep the fuel inj connections and just run extra wiring for the air temp sensor, WB O2, and the RF sensor.
I grabbed an aux air valve from a 320i and this takes care of the idle.

I think that's a fine idea.Kyle in NO wrote:That's the plan RDAvena! I hope it is as easy as I think it is! I plan on housing the MS stuff inside of a Motronic ECU box, utilizing the box's large male connector as the interface. This would allow plugging right into the factory harness with no cutting!
If you manage to get that connector off, you'll be able to carry a motronic ECU in the trunk for peace of mind...not that you'll need it. Depending on which code you're running, you should be able to run your stock IAC. There's a circuit on the megasquirt site telling you how to deal with 3 wire Bosch valves. The circuit can be found here, but you'll have to scroll down a little to find it.
Its still unclear if that circuit for the 3-wire Bosch IAC works yet.
