Another successful night at the track (WITH VIDEO)...

Post by Kyle in NO »

The rain finally held off long enough to make some runs at the strip. This visit, I had the advantage of a little higher gearing (new 3.25 vs. old 3.46) and less weight, as I removed everything from the car that was not bolted down, and some stuff that was! Disadvantages were the fact that the ambient temp outside was about 70F. Last visit it was around the mid-30s. That's about a 40 deg difference, and the humidity was definitely much higher too... :(

I made about 7 or 8 runs, with the last one being the best. Remember folks, this is a non-intercooled TCD S1 kit running 11 psi, and the goddamn Motronic 059 ECU...

13.23 @ 107.5

I'm pretty happy about this, as the temp difference should dictate times about .5 second slower. Well, I ran almost 2 tenths faster, not slower! Factor that in, and it would put me in the high 12s under more suitable conditions. All in all it was a good night.

I think I'll wait to go back until I have the MegaSquirt installed, as I think that this combination is maxed out. All of the 8 runs were pretty consistent at 13.2-13.4, with a few in the 13.7 range when I bogged off the line. I just don't think it will go any faster without some upgrading.

UPDATE: video below in newest post!

Sorry Todd, I couldn't get my scanner to work properly. I'll post the details tomorrow in detail...

I've got the MS on the way now too, maybe I'll get to test it out before 5er Fest! Will there be a dyno and dragstrip near da Fest???

 I can't wait to let my friend Chad know about this. He just got his Hemi R/T a couple weeks ago. I'll have to run him next time I'm in Atlanta. ( assuming I can tune proficiently)

Gee, Todd used to get rounds of applause from the crowd for feats like that.

Nice job though, definitely some impressive numbers.

Quickest e28 S1 to date but not fastest. My euro went 109mph ten times in one day at ATCO. Kyle could eclipse that but doesn't want to turn up the boost.

Not with the 80+ deg temps were seeing now, and soon 90+...Send me another spring Todd, I'll be needing it when he MS goes in! 14 psi or so should do. 8)

Great run, Kyle. Tell me, did you replace the head gasket before the turbo install?

Yes, I installed ARP heas studs and the MLS headgasket when I assembled the engine from used junkyard parts lol...Seems to work well enough!

Very good time! In my 3.46 welded diff'd, rediculously stripped out (circa 1100kgs), very low (excessive rear neg camber!), skinny rear tyre'd (205/40/17) 535i, I got a 15.3 which I was happy with. I think I could have got maximum of maybe a 14.7 if I drove better with better launch and without getting clutch slip in 3rd.

That 13 second time is very impressive! I was at a drag racing day (was attending but my car blew up) and a 350bhp nissan silvia s14 just managed a low 13, which looked really fast, so your turbo kit must be making a massive difference.

This makes me want to turbo my car even more now! Is there a big loss in bhp if I just used a b30 that I have already spare?
