Whew.......battery is now in trunk....WHAT A PITA!

Post by Duke »

Frinkin sucked.......................squirming under the car running the battery cable, tearing apart just about all of the interior removing the old stereo power cable and installing the new cable. Drilling, riveting, cutting, soldering....etc.

The Odyssey battery is installed very nicely in the M5 carpet battery box. I also pulled out that 21 pound weight that is in the spare tire well.

So the front battery box is ready to be totally cut apart to make room for a 11 X 11 heat exchanger (HE) with 9" aux fan. The front M-tech will have to come off temporarily for the modifications, coolant hose routing and installation of the air duct for the HE box. I will be making a box that covers from the top of the headlight opening to the wheel well which will enclose the HE and channel air from the front of the car through the HE and out by the front left wheel. Additional air will be delivered by an air duct that is being installed in the fog light location. The Aux fan will be wired in parallel with the electric A/C fan which will be used in low speed conditions and dyno runs. Should be pretty nifty when finished.

But first...will be going to the Auto hobby shop on post first thing in the morning to pull the drive shaft again.....................now the rear U-Joint succumbed to the Turbo Gods. I knew it would but not so soon. No problem, I have two replacement U-joints ready for service.

I am defiantly taking one of the new U-joints to NAPA and have them source more for me. Sucks waiting to get them from Portland.

Duke,

You should enter your car in the Ultimate Street Car Challenge contest from Sport Compact Car magazine. It compares cars over a 2 day period in 15 catagories, including: engineering, show quality, horsepower, horsepower delivery (useable torque), mpg, braking, quarter mile, track, gross display of horsepower, etc. Go to www.sportcompactcarweb.com for details.

Generally, it is a pretty good comparison. The car that comes out on top is generally a good all around performer. Last year a Skyline won, but only because another car broke. Lots of the cars are owned by the tuners, Ottenger keeps coming back with cars but never seems to keep them together.

I think your car would fair pretty well and suprise a whole lot of people if it was chosen for the contest.

I'm also trying to get Todd to get one of his cars into the contest. It would be great, free PR for him.

Duke, where are the now obligatory pictures of your handiwork? I always enjoy seeing your mods.

I would LOVE too. I am starting a 10 month military school in August and could not make it to the competition if I was selected. Once I am retired or in a duty position that would allow for 30+ days of leave, I'm all over it.

Thanks for the complement of thinking my car would do well though

Sorry - no more pictures before 5er FEST. There has to be some surprise. ;)

Did you actually weigh these tar plates, or are you simply repeating an "E28 legend" with that weight claim?

Yep, put it on a scale. I also found out that my spare weighs 43 pounds and one Recaro weighs 53 pounds. Did not weigh it but predict that the back seat weight is around 60 pounds.

All of this will come out when I run the 1/8 mile. Easy way to drop 160 pounds.

I second the nomination for running in SCC's USCC! It would be great to see an e28 go up against the ricer boys. Might open their eyes, ! And Duke your car would give the best of 'em one helluva run for their money! To bad about the school orders though. There is always next year! ;)
