MS v3.0 running full spark and fuel setup for a stroker m20
It's in my e30 and running right now, 98% plug and play(have to add a TPS, and rewire the main relay to not be controlled by the ecu. Had to change the DB37 plug out for a vertical one, that way you can unplug the motronic connector and plug the stim in for testing etc...
Excellent!!! A friend is building my MS right now to be housed inside a stock Motronic box, like yours. I thought I was gonna be the first with a setup like this!
Its gonna be real nice to have a plug and play unit for the factory harness isn't it? Great job!
yep plug and play is wonderful. I've been selling adapter harnesses to some e30 guys for a while with the motronic plug on one end and the MS on the other end, but decided to go all out on mine. Kyle I'm not sure if you're friend will be able to utilize the stock DB37 plug, I couldn't get the lid back over it and keep all the wires internal with it.
Nice work! I want to do this for a friend in an L-jet box. Glad to see getting the BMW connector off isn't too hard.
So are you running wasted spark or single coil? Is it controlling your IAC?
I'm running just the stock spark, eventually I plan on going to wasted spark, No idle control, stock idle valve is still in place on engine and it idles rock solid without any control(just crack the TB open a tad).
If you later decide to go with MSII/extra, you can pretty easily do wasted spark or coil on plug and IAC control. You might be able to do WS and IAC w/ just MS/extra. Just fun thoughts.
If you want to do crazy boost, some designers are selling 3 and 4 bar MAP sensors. BOOST!
As a total aside, are you doing the tuning with a Mac laptop (as I see in the pic)? How are you managing that? I thought the software was PC only.. or do you have a new Mac that can dual boot?
I just got that mac laptop sunday, but have been doing tuning with a old dell laptop. You can run megatunix on a mac, but it's a very long process to install. I actually had to do very little tuning, as my friend has a stroker with similar specs that I put megasquirt on, so I just dumped in his file.
ya there is a unix based version called megatunix. But the install process is about a 6-8 hour ordeal as you have to download a bunch of apple developer tools, and run a bunch of scripts.

If you are running stock spark, don't you need to retain some of the factory components of the ECU. I see all MS stuff in there.

I thought Macs "just worked".
lol. Maybe if it was Mac software you were installing and not unix software, sure!
no stock stuff in the ecu is needed, It is running on all oem BMW sensors. Just unplugged the 325i ecu, and maf conversion I had, and plugged the megasquirt ecu in. You just have to use easy-therm to convert the megasquirt code to read the bmw sensors correctly.

I think the confusion was that you're running motronic for spark. So you're using MS in dizzy mode?
I'm running the High-res extra code, and using the wheel decoder to read the stock vr sensor and trigger megasquirt when to do spark events. No dizzy mode or anything like that.
This is an E30 (325i) so it's not directly applicable to a stock E28. Not sure what signal conditioning, if any, would be required to use the E28 flywheel reference sensor for spark with Megasquirt.
