M30 setup help

Post by t0fudelivery »

Heres the scoop, I have a 87' 535is. I have the opportunity to pick up some components from a stripped 745i. What I can get right now is the B35 head, turbo manifold, turbo, wastegate, intercooler and plumbing. From what i was told from the seller is that I can just slap on the head, relocate the battery to the trunk, run the intercooler behind the driver side headlights and everything else and I could run under 10lbs of boost without doing any engine or fuel management tuning or other major changes in the electronics. Is this true? If not, what would I need to do? I plan on running between 6-8 pounds of boost and drive the car daily. Any help would really be appreciated.

Don't forget exhaust modifications, and you should get RRFPR , Upgrade fuel pump will help also. TCD has all these.

Its not a B35 head, its basically a regular B34 head with some minor differences.

I think that you should get the MS package that TCD sells for this car.

Get that tuning right means the world.

I have a lightly used BEGI RRFPR in the classifieds if you decide to go that route.

Yes, TCD's S3 package includes a MegaSquirt and accessories.
There are a number of people on the board running MS, including myself. Which file do you need and which MS code are you running?

so if i run an RRFPR and do say 2.5-3" piping on the exhaust, and slap on the head, manifold, turbo, wastegate, and intercooler piping from the 745i, and run 6-8lbs of boost, i should be good to go?

do a 3" exhaust, I had a 2.5" exhaust on my turbo5er and I would have done anything to get 3".

I'll second that. HUGE difference. The 2.5 will work, but you will spool much slower. With 3" it is almost instantaneous.

For HP, I think emember Todd saying there was 50+ hp gain from going to 3".

I didn´t know that he´s offering this.... :( I just ordered some parts.
Actually I have no MS unit in my car but since the stock Bosch one isn´t well pogrammed ( has been remapped )I want to get rid of it. Before spending even more money for a new chip on the dyno, I could use MS and get this running instead.
I´m gonna ask TCD about this one.
Thx for that info :D

3" hp change

Post by Mike-TurboE24 »

I think that's what I remember. It was quite a while ago. 50hp or 50tq...I'm working from memory of a phone conversation.

It was back when he was first testing the prototype 3" exhaust.

There is a definate "butt dyno" difference.

It was a 50 tq difference at a specific rpm, IIRC. Right around 3200 rpm. The 3 inch exhaust causes the turbo to spool so much quicker that it makes a huge difference in midrange torque.
