Preparing for turbo?
Hey, i'm new here and i was wondering what i could do to prepare my car for a turbo. I have an '84 528e. So far i have fixed up the electronics and fuel systems from Bosch. I'm not trying to spend too much, but don't want cheap stuff. I also rebuilt the tranny, new clutch and flywheel.
Any help is great. Thanks in advanced.

I wouldn't worry so much about preparation. You would have an easier time just boosting it and fixing whatever comes up. The 524td turbo and manifold are great for a 528e gasoline turbo application. I'd start with that and go with it. As long as your engine is in good shape, as in low oil comsumption, no nasty noises, etc, you should be good to go.
Where would i be able to find that peticular turbo and manifold??
And i practically re-built the engine, except for internals (pistons, crankshaft, etc.) but everything you can get to without tearing the engine out is redone, even the hoses and most wires. I just have to adjust the timing. And my U-joint just went, i'm fixing it when it comes in.
Also, what would be a good, relatively cheap suspension setup?? i've looked around BavAuto but i was wondering if there were any other places that offer cheaper setups, but equally reliable.
Thanks.

Well, i would like to lower it a little, stiffen it up.....I'm looking for something that can handle a little abuse on the track, but be comfortable on the street.....
And if you know anyother sites for bimmers other than BavAuto and TCD, could you post them here?? i just ould like to have my options open and i haven't found any reliable sites other than those 2.

Just for your information . . . if you didn't delve into the internals, you did NOT "rebuild your engine". A rebuild of any variety on a motor or head requires disassembly and re-assembly.
That said, if your compression and leakdown numbers are healthy, you're good to go. Switch to synthetic oil now, too.

Well, if you want to argue semantics, you just made my point. You could say you rebuilt the fuel delivery system and electrics I suppose, but since you didn't tear apart the motor, you can't really say you rebuilt it.
Compression and leakdown tests are common tests to asses the health of a motor. Google search will tell you lots, as will the archives here. I'm just not ready to type it all out, sorry.
