And some turbo pictars
And some turbo pictars
I've been trying to post these suckers for a while now, and I just got them to work today.
This is the GT2871R (left) and GT2560R (right) from the turbine side. This is the reason why I felt the need for a larger turbo. The GT2871 has a .86 AR housing around a nine blade 53.8mm, 76 trim wheel. The GT2560 has a .64 AR housing around an eleven blade 53mm, 64 trim wheel. The GT2560 turbine can flow about 14lbs/min at best, while the GT2871 can do 21lbs/min. The rest goes out the wastegate. The difference was a 1000 rpm higher boost threshold on the GT2871R at about 3k rpm and a big gain from 4k all the way up to 6k.
This is the 2871 and 2560 from the compressor side. The 2560 compressor is ideally suited to my engine, but the turbine is too small. The 2871 compressor is a bit large, but the turbine is better suited. Its the best off-the-shelf turbo for the 2.7i and turbodiesel manifold combo. The 2871 has a 51.2mm inducer and a 71mm exducer diameter. Its a mean looking wheel, especially with the compressor housing off. The 2560 has a 46.5mm inducer and a 60mm exducer diameter. The 2650 was much louder. It really screamed when it spooled up. The 2871 is still audible, but much less alarming. Also, the 2871 can be fitted with a GT28RS style WG actuator, allowing for universal compressor orientation. I had to modify my 2560 to blow in the right direction. The 2871 compressor and turbine share the same flanges as the 2560, so the swap was a bolt in operation. Damn nice, I say.
This is the configuration as of June 2007. Major updates include a Split Second MAF and a load of duct tape around the bellows to keep it from blowing up. You can't see it, but its also got a set of 19lb injectors and a different chip with a little more timing advance. It's waiting on a stronger clutch and some cooler plugs, then I'll see if I can turn up the boostage once again.
Thats the car. No front valance, no bumper covers, no hood roundel. The drivers door is missing the bumper strip, and it slightly misaligned. The bondo on the passenger rear door is cracking, as well as the bondo on the drivers side upper c pillar. Its a total peice of shit.
The rear is still showing the damage from the accident a few months ago. A spare tail light bolted on, but doesn't fit or seal against the body.

New category for 5erFest: Best Rat Rod. Combination of 1/4 mile time, mechanical integrity, plus big bonus points for dents, rust, and missing trim pieces.

Ok ok, so mine still has its front valance (dented though it is, that 5erFest autocross cone put a good kink in it), but the clearcoat is going, and it has unrepaired accident damage and old somewhat poorly repaired accident damage.turbodan wrote:Don't be so hard on yourself. It still ain't no beauty queen by a long shot. 8)

I am sure it is Todd. At least twice as fast I figure.T_C_D wrote:Wonder if it is faster too?
Dan,
Looks great from a complete sleeper point of view. No one ever sees you coming but they sure see you going though
BTW - the Antithesis ( OPPOSITION, CONTRAST) of my car would be extremely slow. Despite the TCD equipment, it is indeed extremely fast.T_C_D wrote:Dan,
Your car is the antithesis of Duke's!

I don't know if its worth it. Theres more problems than you can see in the pictures. Its had the whole drivers side 1/4 panel, from the tail light up to the top of the c pillar replaced. Not very well either. I would rather transplant the engine and driveline into a better chassis than fix and paint this one. Bummer is that there just aren't a whole lot of e28's in New Mexico, and few of those are straight and rust free. It makes me a sad panda...Nebraska_e28 wrote:That thing is scary on too many fronts! Plans for body work later down the road, or gonna keep the sleeper look?
