533, B35 or stock cam best for a turbo?

Post by rob535i »

As the title says, which cam would work best with a turbo car? The stock B34 cam, the 533 cam or the B35 cam.....

Ive often wondered this too. But it seems the b32 cam has the least lift but most duration which makes me think this is going to make the most HP at lower boosts, but what happens when you really push it? Will the lift limit it, meaning the b35 cam makes more max HP, or does lift not matter as much with a turbo and it will break 500whp, whereas I have heard the limit for the b35 cam is around 450whp. The b34 cam will come on quickest and will probably drive the nicest if you aren't pushing the limits.

Depends on the setup and what you use it for? The b35 some are saying has more overlap but the 272 was not in the spread cheat that I say devinder and some others cooked up. From what I saw the b35 cam had more duration than bmw advertised. I think it was close to the 280 shick or how ever you spell it but the lobe speration made it have more overlap. I allways wondered why the b35 cam came on later than the 272 and after I saw the spead sheet it made since.

I have some cam cores if you want to have one ground up special.

todd and i went over this question extensively when i was doing my motor build and for the most part, we thought that the b33 cam would give the most midrange and upper rpm hp but we never realyl did reach a conclusion and i was running low on funds so we stuck with the stock cam.

For a turbo car I would choose lift over duration.

That favors the exhaust. The Alpina B10 Bi-Turbo used the stock B35 cam FWIW.
