Post by Lee in Ottawa »

I have to rebuild my bottom end now and seems like parts are going to be around $900 usd, thats just for rings, conrod bearings and main bearings also rockers because mine are no good.

Well here what happenned. Originally, I only took the head off and had it freshened up. While the car was sitting with no head and no hood we had a terrible storm and the place it was in developed a leaking roof and water got into the cylinders and caused some surface rust on the cylinder walls (you don't have to tell me i already know i'm a idiot for not taking more precautions) Anyway seems likes a little honing with one of those cross hatching tools cleans it right up but now i'm just thinking should I just pull the trigger and go all out on the bottom end while i have it out and apart? My goal is the 400 mark with ms and intercooler.

Motor already has ms gasket, arp's, 42lbs injectors, fuel pump etc.

Head was just a recondition and stock

BTW does anybody have and parts I may be interested in?

900 is too much for those few items
800 should get :
bearings, rods and mains
all gaskets
rings
rockers
and maybe an oil pump

well i'd like to keep as much money as i can in my pocket, but I'm already into this project for so much as it is. I'd like to say put it back together for 2g's. I could break that though if it's worth it

I would pick up a low mileage M30B35 engine and plug that into your car. It seems that would be most beneficial.

Thanks Ted, I'll try my best to make it. It will depend on whether or not the "native americans" close down the 401 this weekend like they say they will

Hi Lee,

Simple answer, get the JE's from Todd and have a good guy balance the bottom end, all moving parts, and put it together with a fresh - port matched head and the enjoy.

If you do a stock rebuild, you will more than likely be doing it again after you break the ring lands in a piston or two. Unless you are way smarter than I am and are able to resist adding boost ...

See you at TedFest
Dave
